I planned my almost 3 year old DS's first trip to DLR for the middle of next week. We are supposed to go on Wed, stay over at GCH, and then back to the parks on Thursday. But now...the forecast is for rain! I know some people love to go in the rain, but I'm not one of those people The problem is that I would need to cancel the hotel by this Friday, otherwise I lose my money. Argh!

I wonder what the odds are that I could cancel the hotel and then re-book a day or 2 before the trip if the forecast changes. Anyone now about occupancy rates at GCH? We are using the AP discounted rate for the night.

Your a local and know that the rain we had in December was not normal.
However, it usually only rains for part of the day in Feb. And the crowds stay away.

If you cannot cancel, it could be a great day, with a rainbow.

I think you will be fine, my guess is the forecast will change. I would wait until Friday to see what the forecast does.

What a beautiful picture! That's the kind of treasure I'd want at the end of my rainbow. :)

Oh I so hope it rains :thumbsup2! I'm from Vancouver so we're used to torrential downpours on a regular basis. I hear that grey skies and occasional sprinkles in LA is enough to keep a lot of people away from Disney. Hearing how busy its supposed to be next week, I really hope so.

From living in the rain, I've learned that water ALWAYS dries. I'm also happy that it looks like its going to be colder than average as well, another bonus for crowd countrol :grouphug:

The good thing is that you're staying close enough that you can head back to the hotel if it starts drizzling, dry off, get some rest and head back out once it clears up. You'll be refreshed and ready for more fun!

I guarantee you'll have a fantastic time, moist and all!

Hearing how busy its supposed to be next week, !

Just curious, where did you hear it was going to be busy next week? I thought it would be really empty!

The cold doesn't bother me, but I'm really not one to drag a 2 year old around in the rain. We have so little rain here that it seems silly to me to go when it's raining! But that's just me :-) I am going to wait until Friday to see if the forecast changes...but right now, it looks like rain both Wed & Thurs (the 2 days we are supposed to be there!)

I love the rain, but I AM 1200 MILES AWAY. Looks like you live in LA so to me it looks like you could change your schedule unless you have other plans.
When living there I use to go for at least one day every weekend.

I hear ya!! We will be there those days next week as well. It just sorta sucks that it's in the upper 70's this week and maybe mid 60's next. :headache: I wanted the DW's first trip to DLR to be nice....oh well. It does beat the 14 degrees we currently have here in St Louis at the moment.

OP, I wouldn't worry just yet. 8 days out... that weather could change very easily on you. Maybe just call the hotel and confirm the cancellation policy. Maybe they can be flexible, depending upon bookings.

Did you really? If so, wow!

Between work, family, and just life in general, I find that it is tough to get to the Park that often. People always ask, "OMG, do you go to Disneyland all the time?!?" Well, no, I'm too busy with life to get there "all the time." I wish I could make it once a week, but it's just not realistic... for me anyhoo.

The rain that was suppose to happen on Sun-Mon is gone... it changes pretty quick... :\

was actually lookin forward to some rain... :(

Living in SoCal for most of my life, I know that the weather can change. Right now, they are calling for "scattered showers". But I still have a week before my trip, so I'm hoping they scatter completely and go away!

Disney travel says I have to cancel by this Friday or I lose my money for both rooms. I don't think they will make an exception. But I guess I could cancel if I have to, and then try to rebook at the last minute if there are still rooms available.

I've been patiently waiting, but the forecast has actually gotten worse instead of better  I am going to have to cancel, as it will just be too cold and wet to take my 2 year old around the park. The good thing is that I spoke with a very nice CM, and she arranged it so that I can still cancel my reservations at GCH.

Guess I will have to look for some new dates, but I'm thinking that I have to wait until May in order to avoid the Spring Break crowds. Does that seem right? Or would the 2nd week in March still work for low crowds mid-week?

glad you were able to cancel without losing the room money.

We're going next week and it looks cold...too cold for a vacation away from the cold.
Not sure what to do...I don't want to cancel; we just got everything together and the kids are so looking forward to it (as am I!) but I would hate to have it be too cold to fully enjoy. we are just so sick and tired of cold that we needed a vacation to warmth. a few days ago it said it would be up to 80 and now it's down to high 50's for the high. If it is going to rain, we're def cancelling. the kids hate the rain and I don't feel like everyone being cold and cranky on our only vacation.

The weather has drastically changed -- it was up in the high 70's, with even an 80 here and there. Today is cloudy, and it goes downhill from here. The forecast calls for the chance of rain pretty much on and off for the next 10 days (that's as far out as the forecast goes). It's so aggravating to have planned a trip for next week. We hardly have any rain out here!

I rented points for VGC, so no possibility of canceling. Besides, I also bought really cheap flights, arranged for child care for our daughters with both our families, and bought non-refundable PHs. I am going no matter what, and we are going to have fun!!!! :)

Seriously, if I could cancel, I probably would consider it, but it is so hard to get away from the kids these days that we have to take it when we can.

Yes, your situation is completely different. We are just an hour away, so the reality is that we can go another time. It just doesn't make sense to take a 2 year old in the rain/cold when we are so close to the resort.

Oh I hope we get at least a couple of nice days the first week in March! *Crossing fingers* (and toes, arms, legs etc) lol!
