If anyone is looking for inexpensive rain ponchos and aren't near any Dollar Trees I just found some in the sporting section of Walmart for .87. They are clear and one size fits all.I believe they are called emergency rain ponchos.Also they are hooded.

Target also carries rain ponchos for $1 in their new $1 section at the front of the store.

I always bring the cheap rain ponchos wherever I go. You never know when it is going to rain! And it always seems to rain when I am in Florida

I got the dollar ponchos last year, and they didn't hold up at all. We got soaked with them on. They just didn't provide good coverage compared to the ones you get in the park. Anyone know if the ones at Wal-Mart or elsewhere or of any quality. The ones I got at the dollar store were a very flimsy plastic -- not quite as light, but as thin as saran wrap.

I found some at walgreens that were heavier. They had a pretty good selection of colors too. Purple, pink, red, blue, etc.
They were about $4.00 each - more than the dollar store, but my kids did not want to wear the clear ones.

I've stocked up on the WalMart and Dollar Tree ponchos for our trip this summer.
One other thing to remember, bring a minimum of 2 per person per trip. If you are going when we go (late June, early July), chances are you will use the ponchos once a day. It's nice to have a fresh one half-way into the trip and just toss the old one away. The first year we only packed one per person and they were getting pretty gross by the end of our 11 day trip!!

We bought some of the emergency ponchos at Wal-Mart about 3 years ago when we were expecting rain at a NASCAR race we were going to. It didn't rain that day, so we still had them. We took them with us to the Indy 500 on Sunday. We used them and stayed dry. They fit my 6'1" husband with no problem.

I like the idea of the ones at Walgreens. My DD will love a pink one. Plus she will stand out in a crowd.

I've used the Wal-mart 87 cent poncho. They're great! They are lightweight so you don't feel like you are lugging around something heavy in your backpack. Also, during a downpour I stayed nice and dry while my husband (too proud to put his on) got soaked. I may go so far as to call them disposable though. It was extremely difficult to get them even close to as small as they were in the original package once I used mine.
