I'm sure that this has been asked before, but where can I get cheap rain ponchos so that I don't have to buy them in Disney? I looked at Target yesterday but couldn't find them. Any ideas? TIA!

You can get them at dollar stores or sporting good stores.

The cheapies work great for NOT getting wet on rides, but if you are wanting one to stay dry in the rain...the disney ones are better. We learned the hard way a few years back. The disney ones are longer and more heavy duty, but don't take a lot of space in your bag when you are not using them.

The cheapie ones only come about down to your hips...and my poor husband got soaked wearing one because we couldn't find the disney ones quick enough while in the park (and they will sell out quickly if it rains in the park). And they are not that obnoxious yellow anymore, they are clear.

When we went last year, I think the adult ones were $6? I could be wrong. But they are nice...my husband takes them hunting, to sporting events when it rains. They are well worth the money.

Oh another thing about them is that they have a deeper hood part. The $1 ones are so shallow you can barely pull them up over your head! I don't even have a big head! :)

The dollar ones are good for small children because they will be long enough and big enough, but not so for adults.

I got some at Target last week -- $4.99, for a more substantial one than the $1 ones. It was in their Random Acts of Summer display, alongside the multi-hued plastic margarita glasses, of course.

I've also seen them at Kmart, Walgreens, CVS and so on. I waited until I saw them at Target so I could get matching colors for my kids, because I'm like that.

LOL Westwingkath! I'm like that too! :rotfl2:

Thanks everyone for the information! Only 5 more days until we leave!!!!

I like the cheap ones best because we can throw them away when we are finished wearing them. Last summer we bought high-quality rain ponchos for the kids, and it was a pain-in-the-neck to refold them and tote them around after it quit raining. From now on, it's disposable ponchos for us. Target has Colemans Kids ponchos (bright colors, not clear) and I'm going to stock up on those.

I bought a few adult ponchos at Wal-Mart, but I never found any at our local dollar stores.

Also, we were there in August and it was sweltering to wear plastic. Does anyone ever use an umbrella instead of a rain poncho? I'm thinking of packing one for our next trip.

Most of the 7-11s down here even sell ponchos with Mickey on them for under $5--if you feel that adds to the Disney experience. BTW, last time I got caught off-guard in the parks, I remember the price of an adult poncho being closer to $10.

I just bought some rain ponchos at the " Dollar Tree " store. 2 for $1.00 and they might not be great but one of the things I wont do is try to fold up and carry a wet poncho after it stops raining. This way when the rain stops I just throw out the poncho. Easy is as Easy does.

:offtopic: I saw a lady with a poncho on the Kali river ride. She got soaked anyway because the water ran down her back and puddled on the seat. She ended up getting soaked waist down. She was so worried about getting wet she did not really enjoy the ride.
We did not bring ponchos. I had them in my hand at the dollar store and also at Target but then I decided not to get them and chance it. It just looked at the forecast everyday and decided if it was going to rain then I would bring extra clothes since shorts and undies fit in my backpack nicely but I had a stroller that we kept stuff in. I would rather spend money on a disney t shirt than a poncho my kids would probably never wear again if being wet became an issue.
However to answer the question :sunny: ... I think for kids sizes go to the dollar store. For adults, maybe the camping ones at Target and Walmart seemed to be adult size.

I found adult ones in the hunting/fishing section of K-Mart for $1.00 apiece. I don't plan to use it on a ride but if it starts to rain at least it will be some kind of cover!

We buy the stronger type ones at the local Sporting Goods store.

Our Target had some character ones(Dora and Blue) near the socks and underwear in the kids section. It was on an endcap. They also sell the Coleman ones near the camping stuff. We bought the cheap $ store ones last year and they worked out fine for our one afternoon of rain. But if it really rained we would have been in trouble.

I, too, buy mine from the Dollar Tree. I've used the same ones for two years, ballgames, theme parks, shopping. While at the parks, they're nice to have during the many rain showers that Florida has. I'm 5'8" and they come to my mid calf. As the other poster said, you get 2 for $1. I love them and always carry 2 in my glove box.

At night, I shake the excess water off outside then put them in the bathroom or over a chair, if they're almost dry, so that they are ready the next morning to be folded and put back in the backpack.

I bought them at Wal-Mart for 97 cents each. They are in the camping section.

I bought Coleman ones at Target for 89 cents in the camping section. They cover all the way down to your knees (depending on height of course). They worked well for us, even last year when we got caught in the Sunday night downpour that ushered in Hurricane Wilma. I always keep a few with me, and I personally always use mine on Splash. (I hate to walk around wet).

The best part is I do not feel guilty about throwing it away!

I got caught in that same downpour in October! Wasn't that amazing? we went into Maelstrom and it was still nice weather; came out 15 minutes later and it was pouring!!!! I was so glad I had my Target poncho tucked into my fanny pack. Saved me from buying the more expensive WDW poncho like everyone else!

Our Walmart has ponchos of all shapes and sizes...they have 2 for $1 clear ones at the $1 endcaps near the front. There are heavy ones for about $5 by the women's accessories (umbrellas are there, too), and in sporting goods, they have disposables for under $1, and a medium weight ones for $3 (the medium weight ones are comparable to our Disney ones, weight wise.)

Hope this is helpful!

I was in Dollar General last weekend and they sell them 2 for $1.00 both in adult and child. Of course you get what you pay for, so I would assume they are like a throw away, probably very thin materail, but they'll keep you dry.
