Hi everyone, I need to purchase at least seven, hopefully 14, rain ponchos. We are a group of seven heading to Disney in January. I have heard that you can get the little folded up ponchos at a dollar store. Anyone bought these? How good are they? How little are they when folded up? What dollar store would you suggest I get them from, or is there a better alternative?

Thanks everyone, Suz

I didn't get mine at the dollar store, I bought them at Canadian Tire.

They were approximately $2.00 a piece with tax.

They fold up very small.

Thanks everyone! I will check this all out. Have a great night!

We got caught in a downpour at Epcot so we had to buy the ones at the park, but i am glad I did. They are excellent and were well worth the money and we have them for this year. I fit all four in a freezer sized ziplok.

I get mine at Dollarama. I think they are longer and bigger than the ones at Disney.

We used the Dollarama ones last trip but they are really a 1 or 2 time use thing. They fold up really small but aren't sturdy like the Disney ones. We used them when we got caught but bought the WDW for a day long rain that never seemed to end.

1) Definitly bring a big ziplock bag in to stuff them all back into since no matter what brand of poncho you buy you will never ever ever be able to make them fit back into that little tiny tiny pouch they came in.

2)Bring a pair of little scissors with you. DD10's poncho kept tripping her so we did a little styling on the sidewalk of New York at MGM.....hold scissors horizontally and twirl kid.

3)Clamp a hat down over the hood of your poncho (or your child's) to hold the whole thing on since the hoods seem to be made for Shrek and won't stay on on their own.

4) Don't be too hasty to haul them out. Several times we almost did only to have the rain stop before the first one was fully unfolded.....causing me to begin to leave them in the car hence only having one when the BIG storm hit so guess who got elected to walk through Epcot to get the others in a major downpour while hubby and the kids sat in the Land Pavilion with several thousand others....Mommy....if you get hit by lightening I love you.....by the way the deluge ended by the time I got to the car which leads me to tip number 5.....carry a cell phone so you can tell hubby waiting with 1000 other people that the rain has stopped...I'll meet you in China!

We bought 8 disposable Dollar Store ponchos...I have four left over for our next trip. :dance3:

We bought ours from the Dollar Store. They are perfectly fine and usable numerous times (just dry them out after every use or they can stink).
Even if you only get one or two uses out of them, your still only out a dollar.
As far as quality goes.....its a piece of plastic...it keeps you dry...thats it:)
As with many things at Disney (that are overpriced),,,ponchos are one of them..:goodvibes

I second the ones from Dollarama...more substantial than the ones at Buck or Two or other dollar stores...

We purchased ours from Dollarama also, they would have been great but the day we wore them, it was windy as well as rainy. The ones from Dollarama are very thin plastic and they really blew around in the wind, they ended up as wet inside as outside. In addition to that because they were such thin plastic, they were very hard to shake out when we took them off, something akin to saran wrap, the folds kept sticking together. We lasted a couple of hours with them and then tossed them out and braved the elements. Fortunately we were at MGM and saw a lot of shows that day. I wouldn't buy them again.

I'm not sure if more expensive ones would be of a better quality plastic though, I've never bought them.

I bought a few tonight at the 99 cents store. I bought two different types, each for a dollar. One is white with the Canadian flag all over it and the other is just clear and extremly thin. I am not sure which is better, but I figured I can't go wrong with the flag one ( I hope!!) I will bring the big ziplock to hold them all in for sure. Great tip Applemomma!! The ones I got were bigger than what I had thought they would be. They were all relatively flat, but measured about three inches by four inches in the package. No biggie though.

If anyone has a picture they would not mind sharing of the cheapy type, I would love to see it!!

Have a great night. Suz

Here's one of my dd's. They are both Dollar Store finds. My youngest is wearing a "children's" style though we had to roll her sleeves up. Oldest is wearing the adult size but the is post modification with the scissors...it was getting caught on her croc strap. For me (average height) the length came to just below my knees.

our experience- the dollar store ones were great for rides like K-falls at AK and Splash mountain, but they STUNK the next day, even though I dried them well- which was a pain in itself. We got ours in Buffalo at a dollar store where they were 2 for a dollar.

The disney ones are $6 for the kids, $7 for the adults. We bought the kid ones one day and felt they were a good purchase. Not too expensive, imho, and MUCH better quality. So for one rainstorm or rides, the dollar store ones are good, but for multiple use it's cheaper in the long run to buy the disney ponchos.

Thanks Applemomma, the clear one is exactly like the one I bought. I saw the blue type, but we have a couple of larger adults in our party and I thought they might not fit as well as the poncho style! I guess we will be alright with the cheapies. Whats a little rain when you are in Disney!!

When DH and I took DD last year we had almost a full day of rain on our last night. And we had paid for tickets to MVMCP. We bought the Disney ponchos but we still got soaked watching the fireworks etc.. I had a change of clothes for DD, but not for us so we sucked it up. I ended up leaving the ponchos behind because we had to pack that night and be gone bright and early. There was no getting those pricey suckers dry! Lesson learned, buy the cheap ones at home!

Thanks for the photo. You have two cutie pies!
