Ok, so, normally I wouldn't even think to post about rain in <GASP> Florida in <<DOUBLE GASP>>early October, but I thought If I posted about our day, it might put some peoples minds at ease about the rest of the week.

Anyway, the early part of the day was BEAUTIFUL! Crowds at EPCOT and DHS were very manageable, but it was one of those "It's gonna rain any minute" days, so whenever we left the stroller in the open, we covered it with the rain cover. Sure enough, during our noonish lunch at Hollywood Brown Derby the skies opened up. Check the stroller grab the camera, everything's good and we turn lunch into a LONG lunch and when we finish, the rain is mostly passed. Lesson learned #1, cover that stroller! Our Little One is almost 4 so we tend to park the stroller and leave it for long stretches and then only grab it when we have to move from park to park ... Even if it looks sunny or you've got it under cover, cover it with a poncho or the rain guard. You never know where it will be when you come back. CM's were moving strollers tonight at the HAunted Mansion from under the awning to a completely exposed area and then it started to rain again, Yikes!

ANyway, Dinner at Kona and then Monorail to the party a little after 7pm. As we are going down the ramp, the skies open up and I mean OPEN UP! Get a little drenched navigating the bag check and the ticket/arm band gauntlet and then it really starts to pour ... end of the world, send the ark pour. Hubby's got the stroller and he's trying to wrestle out ponchos and rain guards. I do what any good wife would do and abandon him. Grab the pre-schooler under the arms and run with her screaming and me hysterically laughing across the front concourse in a drenching downpour from the turnstiles to the covered area on the right by the lockers. I ran fast and we were wet, but not soaked. Get settled and reunite with Hubby and then begin debating leaving. We've got 3 more days in Orlando and even the possibility of another party day on Monday, so maybe we just cut bait and head back to the monorail. But then we decide to stay, which leads to Lesson #2, never give up on a good day at Disney!

We decide to stay and I have to say we had a great night. It rained for the next hour or so and we rode Pirates of the Caribbean and did some shopping. The rain had diminished to a mist, so, Poncho-clad, we decided to scope out a spot for the parade. The crowd was really light, and, frankly, most people were wandering around not sure what to do. Around 8:00 pm we walked out to the very front of the parade route, on the Splash side, and lined up right at the rope. It continued to be wet and misty, with patches of rain, but the kid was happy playing with her stuffed animals and being amused by the rain cover on the stroller. The parade was late and soggy, but because the rain kept the crowd so light, most people walked up 5-10 minutes before showtime and still got a good view. Apparently, many, many people are afraid of the rain, because the park was EMPTY in comparison to the party last night. So, the parade started right around 8:30 and it was amazing. The kid loved it and I loved it ... and i'm telling you something that I don't usually admit, I am NOT a parade person. I can't get over how Disney manages to make something spooky, but not scary! The kiddo reached for my hand a couple of times, but she had a blast. The parade ended and much to my surprise, DD requested one last ride on the Haunted Mansion and, even more surprisingly, we complied. From this point on in the night, it did not rain significantly any more, despite something like a 50-60% chance forecast. However, the rain continued to have an effect on the evening. We decided to bolt after the Haunted Mansion, since we'd been in the parks since 8:50 am this morning and had seen Hallowishes the previous night. As we made it out of the HM, they give the 5 minute warning on Hallowishes. The lights dim as we cross the bridge in front of Crystal Palace and the first fireworks erupt as we hit mid-main street. There was no one in our path ... no one to dodge, no crowds. We simply walked out ... we even used the rest room, got candy and we're still sitting on the monorail before the show was over. In fact, we had a great view as we left the MK and headed into the contemporary.

We were dry in our room at the GF by 10, with the kid asleep and a really nice day under our belt. My point is, I know the weather is predicted to be worse over the next two days, but never, ever give up on a good day at Disney World. You won't be disappointed, I promise!

Anyway, were here now if anyone has questions or needs a little recon!!!

That's the one thingI haven't picked up yet - a rain cover. I am going to go this week before we leave. Thanks for the reminder!

The rain cover really saved us. DD Really got a kick out of hanging out underneath it when it really poured and it kept most of our stuff dry.

Thanks for the update....we love it when it rains, when it starts to pour like that, we are the crazy ones that heads to the parks while everyone else is running away from them :rotfl:. The good thing about Disney and rain is that there are so many places to go when the skies open up, whether it is a ride, place to eat, or a store...but for us, we would rather splash through the puddles and have a good ole time that way. My kids have learned that you don't melt from the rain so they don't freak out like most little kids do (unless of course there is lightning in the area). Have a great rest of your trip :goodvibes

I love being in the parks when it's raining! A couple of years ago when we went to MNSSHP, it was one of those rainy, misty Florida nights, and for us, it just added so much to the Halloween atmosphere. AND, the crowds diminished early. I remember being able to ride Splash over and over without even getting out of the flume, because there weren't enough people in line to filll them. We got soaked, but had the time of our lives!!:yay:

Love the idea of splash mountain ride, doing without getting out

Today is a good splash mountain day-looks like all day rain.

Things to do in the rain...

enjoy the lower crowds:thumbsup2
ride splash and Kali and not worry about how you going to look afterward-everyone looks wet.
sit in the splash zone at Shamu stadium (it may be drier LOL)

Future World-indoor pavillions:thumbsup2

grab a poncho and have fun!

We usually head to Epcot on really rainy days. There are many indoor attractions in Future World. Just try and time your walks between buildings to times when the rain lets up a little. If you're lucky, the rain lets up completely by evening and you can spend it over in the World Showcase (where there aren't as many places to take refuge from the rain) and see Illuminations.

I have to admit, one of our fondest WDW memories was a September trip 2 years ago. It had been raining lightly on and off all day. Later in the evening, we did just what I suggested above, and staked out a place to watch Illuminations near the Mexico pavillion. Sure enough, just as the fireworks started, the skies just opened up and it absolutely poured. And there were so many people gathered nearby that it was just about impossible to find shelter. But many people scattered away and tried. We just stood there in our ponchos with a completely unobstructed view and watched the show, laughing all the while. It rained so hard that the ponchos didn't really help much. Once Illuminations ended, we made a mad dash for the monorail. It continued to rain and the puddles were everywhere and very deep in spots. Of course the line for the monorail was long, but eventually we boarded. We were lucky enough to get a seat. Train starts moving and we realize that the roof is leaking onto us - there was just no escape from the rain that night. Fortunately we were staying at BLT and had a washer and dryer. Our clothes were saturated to the point you could wring them out. Shoes were okay as we all had Keen's on (best shoes ever for WDW if you ask me!) To this day, when we reminisce about that day, we still laugh about it. I totally agree with the OP, don't let rain discourage you at the World - you can still have a blast!

We are at the world right now. Will they still have the parade at mk tonight in the rain? I know wishes will prob be cancelled. But was thinking of heading over for the parade. We were at mk this morn until after lunch it was pretty great crowd wise but then after lunch we split because the crowds seemed to double (bored ppl venturing out I guess).

Parades are more at risk in the rain than fireworks. As long as the cloud ceiling isn't too low, they will generally still do Wishes. Parades in the rain have more impact on the performers' safety.

We went to MNSSHP last night. It was wet and rainy. The headless horseman didn't ride due to weather, the first parade had to be delayed, the Vilains shows were cancelled...Usually rain doesn't get us down, but on special events that don't run all year like MNSSHP and SWW it sorta' sucks for us..And we are from Florida so we are used to the rain. The only good thing I can say is that there was little to no wait for rides.

Today has been pouring nonstop. Not sure how it went today at the parks since we decided to skip the parks today. We are semi-local, though, and are here about once a month so with our Annual Passes its not really a big deal.

I'm going to move this to our trip report board.

Totally agree! We were at the party last night too and all of the rain related cancellations really stunk. There were also other odd things missing...like only Naveen without Tiana, no Bullseye at the dance party. It was a let down. We spent today in Epcot...huge mistake but we only have the weekend to get to other parks then we go home Tuesday morning. We got soaked to our skin just exiting our car this morning and remained completely soaked, squishy soggy wet all day. It never stopped raining, not even for a minute. At times there was really bad wind too. My kids complained the whole day, I was shaking and shivering, our clothes weighed 10 lbs....so we left at 5:30. We are prisoners in our room at Pop now....wishing we could get dinner but not wanting to get wet again going back to the dining area. We still have something like 27 dining credits left...but we spend all our time just sloshing around so no one wants to eat. The park might not have been as busy today but then the wer also things like...no characters to meet in world showcase, test track closed...anything you could do just became a huge hassle because of constanting having to remove ponchos, find somewhere to leave the stroller and so on. It was just not worth the hassle at all.

Was the Food and Wine crowd there? We are going tomorrow to do F & W but standing in line at the booths in the rain...

We ended up not going to mk tonight being wet all day today was enough...I really doubt they had wishes pretty steady heavy rain all night. I know what you mean about being stuck in the room. I guess this is when deluxe comes In very handy. Interior corridors ahhh I miss akl right now. Not that I'm not liking por but this rain is getting me down :( going to ak tomorrow...oh and bought an umbrella in the park,it broke 2 hrs later :(

Oh no! I sure hope it lets up and you can salvage some of your trip! :scared1:

We dealt with the bitter cold last December, and know the weather really can change a trip.
