Rain Boots or Shoes?

So we leave this week! Looking at the weather I see rain so far but we are going to make the best of it and look forward to small crowds! :) So what shoes are best for rainy weather? Do you wear/bring rain boots or what works best? Trying to ensure safety so we don't slip and try and prevent a cold from wet feet? So what do you suggest?

I might be persuaded to wear rain boots during a monsoon in the winter months, but IMO wearing them this time of the year would be torture- it's just waaaaay too hot. Talk about wet feet- they'll be perspiring so badly you'll never dry out the inside of those boots. Just wear a good walking shoe with non-slip soles. Don't wear the same pair of shoes 2 days in a row. When you get back to your resort at night, stuff the shoes with newspaper- they'll dry out overnight.

Nobody gets a cold from wet feet! Colds are caused by a virus that enters the body through the mouth or nose, not the toes!

On rainy days we wear good flip flops. Good meaning a good grip to the ground. Feet dry easy, tennis shoes do not. I think my feet would rub in rain boots and when the sun popped out, my tootsies would be hot! :)

This. We both wore our sneakers during the rain and it worked out fine. Avoid puddles and they won't get soaked. Even agree about the cold part, so don't worry about that!

I would have to disagree with wearing flip flops. IMO, your feet will get soaked and cold with those and every time I wear flip flops in the rain, when they get wet they make my feet slip and slide and it's unsafe and uncomfortable.

100% agree. We have always worn our sturdy sneakers the entire time during our trip. Even the ten day long ones. I've seen so many people slip sliding around in flip flops during the rain.

I do take an "emergency" pair of shoes with me but have yet to use them. My husband will take sandals for Kali River Rapids but he's thinking about not doing that in the future.

Wear shoes in which you are comfortable and have worn before. And worn often. Don't try and "break in" a new pair of shoes at Disney World. Wear them at least a week before your trip.

That's why you wear a good pair of flips with good grips. Don't think you can run down to Walmart or Target and have good shoes . We were flips sunny or rainy, summer or winter at Disney. I'd rather wet feet that dry than wet tennis shoes any day, but it's just a personal preference for us.

Cheap flip flops without good traction on the bottom would be a mistake, but I have a pair that have as good a tread on the bottom as my sneakers. They were perfect for the rainy days. I can't wear the cheap, flat flip flops so I spent a bit more money and got a nice pair with good arch support for our Disney trip.

I have a pair of Keene sandals to wear on rainy days. I've also had outdoor type shoes that have mesh in the sides so the water can drain.

Crocs. You don't have to buy the not so attractive clog style, they have some pretty cute sandals. They are comfy, and they shed the water and are dry in no time! I've actually worn mine into lakes, if that gives you an idea of how water resistant they are.

Avoid puddles, and you should be ok with whatever footwear you have. If you trip was further in the future so you had time to break in new shoes, I would suggest looking at some water proof footwear. Keens, Crocs, FiveFingers, good flip flips, and sort of shoe that you can wear while kayaking or rafting would be a reasonable option. You just need to make sure they are broken in and your feet are used to walking long distances in them. Heck, I jus rock my Birkenstocks through the rain at WDW. Although the last trip they did finally fall apart in a rain storm, but they were 6 years old and I had broken through the footbeds......

We just got back a week ago and are from rainy, rainy Portland. Generally rain isn't a problem for us. But the 2 noteworthy rains that we ran into at WDW were so bad that in the (less than a) minute it that took us to get under-cover, we became seriously soaked all over; including our sneakered feet.

There was no avoiding puddles for us...the pavement turned into rivers seemingly instantly.

That said, I don't have a lot of advice, just do whatever you normally do when you figure you'll be outside in the rain. But I just wanted to share that keeping dry feet is not always about avoiding puddles. My littlest dd did wear rainboots everyday and was fine, but that's all she'll wear most days anyway. I brought a super light pair of water shoes that fit nicely in my very small crossbody bag. If I'd had time I would have popped those on.

Anyway, wet feet or not, I'm sure you'll have a great trip.

The more expensive flip flops will certainly have fine bottoms for wet pavement that will prevent slipping, but I'm talking about the part your foot sits on... I have Reef and Teva flip flops and neither one has prevented my foot from slipping around in the flip flop when I'm trying to walk and my foot/flip flop gets wet. I've never slipped due to the bottoms being wet, but have had to walk funny because my foot was slipping around. :confused3

Keen Venice H2. Are my shoe of choice during the pm thunderstorms of summer.

Personally it doesn't rain long enough to have to resort to rain boots. They would just be an annoyance not to mention are super uncomfortable. A comfy pair of flip flops are your best bet.

I am leaving next week, really hoping we won't see too much of the rain. I have been hearing mixed reviews from friends who have been down there in October.

Crocs, and you can buy them at WDW. They used to have a Crocs store in the airport, not sure if it's still there.

One trip, it was dry when we wnet into Buzz, and downpouring by the time we came out. Not only that, but there was a HUGe puddle at teh ride exit. CM's were just about forcing guests to keep moving out the door. There was no way to avoid that puddle.

DH's sneakers got wet, and took days to dry. They did not fully dry until we came home. Also, resort guests were warned to NOT put them in the clothes dryers (Yuck! Who wants to dry clothes after someone's nasty sneakers has been in there?)

Every time it's rained on our trips at WDW, the next (few) day(s) we are subjected to guests with disgusting smelling sneakers. If you are stuck next to a family like that on a ride, there's nothing you can do.

I wear flip flops if it's raining. Just the basic Havainas.

I figure nothing is going to dry faster than those, and it's not like your feet are going to get cold.
