Rain and ECV

I have coverings for my ECV to protect during the rain but wondered how I could protect the electronics during the mega downpours with flooding that seems to develop at Disney. Any suggestions?

If it's raining hard we go to a restaurant that has some sort of overhang where we can park our ECV's. A lot of rides and restaurants also have indoor parking. The storms usually don't last too long. If we have to park outside we cover the tiller, and also cover the seats with a rain poncho so we don't have to sit on a wet seat when we come outside again.

Ponchos work fine for most rains, even heavy, if just “scooting” from place to place. Torrential downpours are usually not long lasting so I look for a place with a roof or overhang and sit it out. When necessary I scoot from one overhang to another.

Be sure not to travel thru the flooded areas especially in front of the Skyliner outside of Epcot. If it’s torrential rain, that area gets too deep for an ECV crossing.

Clothespins can be a great help, too! They let you easily turn a spare poncho or clear plastic garbage bag into a customized cover. Best of all, they don’t damage a makeshift covering so it can be used multiple times. I always have some in my park bag.

I bring a dozen or so clothespin in a suitcase anywhere I travel. They make ideal clips for food packages (chip & cookie bags and more) and can even hang a piece of laundry of two.

Thank you for this tread. As a ECV user going in September for the 1st time I am worried about the rain. We normally go May or Oct/Nov no never had to worry about rain/hurricanes as much as this trip :)

Another thing I do at Disney: I take a 2” x 3” wide section of painters tape with me to place over the key hole if I have to leave the ECV outside while I go on an attraction that only accepts manual wheelchairs in the queue. There can be sunshine when you enter a queue and a downpour when you exit in Florida. I find it’s an easy way to cover the electronics for “just in case” situations. I also use the tapeover when I gate check my ECV with the airlines.
