The Raglan Road experience was VERY odd. I walked up about 7:00 p.m. and it looked as though the place was only 1/3-1/2 full. There were two, sweet young things at the podium, and a lady in front of me. The lady in front of me was with a party of ten, and she was asking if they could get a table. The exchange went something like this:
Lady: Im with a party of ten and was wondering if we could get a table.
Young Thing #1: Ummmm .yeah.
(pause)
L: Do you have any idea as to when?
(pause)
YT#1: Ummmmmm ..no, because there isnt a manager right here that I can talk to.
L: Oooooookkkkkkkaaaaayyyyy can you tell me if it will be more like 20 minutes or more like an hour so I know what to tell my party?
YTs look at each other.
YT#2 inserts her wisdom: Well .no .not really .because there isnt a manager right here that we can talk to.
(longer pause)
SUDDENLY! A light bulb comes on!
YT#2: But we can give you a pager!
So a pager is issued, they depart for PI and I, being a single traveler have NO idea what to expect. Instead, I am seated immediately out on the patio (my request) and am surrounded by empty tables.
I scan the menu and decide just to do dessert and I get the chocolate thing, whose name slips my mind. My server was OK, but nothing special. At one point, she left her empty tray on my table for a good ten minutes. Having been both a waitress and a bar tender at different points in my college career, I contemplated picking up the tray and trying to earn some money whilst I waited, but I figured I would stand out since I was dressed in a bright red sweater and blue jeans.
The dessert was very good, but I would describe it as a glorified zebra dome. WAY overpriced at almost $10.00. the dinners being served did look good and appeared to be substantial portions.
About 20 minutes into my meal, here came the party of ten, and they were seated at a table near me that had been empty the whole time.
