PS I knew it was a joke - I thought the invitations went out months ago because I remember BD in on a discussion about when in August he could go (school calendar problems like Andy).

Thanks for the laugh though. In all this snow and cold it was great to find something to bring a smile to my face.

I can't believe this thread has gotten this many replies! I knew you were kidding, and I just haven't been here for awhile, bad me!! I most humbly accept your most honorable invitation and will gladly serve as your most humble servant in the position of shrimp fetcher (that means getter) to both of you!! I most anxiously await the naming of the date for this most wonderful cruise, and look forward to meeting you both in person and gettin to know you both. Well that's enough of that! Well, I too am hoping to do a summer 05 cruise too...looking at the end of August, depending on what the heck they offer. If we end up on the same cruise, I promise I will not touch any shrimp. So, does that earn me an invitation?

There would be too many people who we (Andy and I) have met either on the cruise or on the boards that we would love have join us - therefore, it would be totally impossible for us to even try to send invitations - hence the little joke about "by invitation only" - of course, Ann hit the nail on the head about my "renting the ship"! (Now of course, HER birthday cruise is a private affair - that doesn't mean you have to have an affair and keep it private though!)

It will be a bit sadder since a few nameless people made BD leave the boards - and he will not be with us on this cruise. Personally, I don't give a rat's tail if you liked him or not, I considered him a friend - a good one, a confidante and someone with a decent sense of humor and for my two cents, I will miss his presence at our party/cruise.

Again, this is a public event. But if you don't have a sense of humor then don't hang with the rest of us!!!

Actually, DCL should give the guests of honor free cruise fare since you are responsible for filling up their ship!

Sorry, but when someone is told to 'lighten up', it suggests that they have a problem and I can't blame luvindisneyworld for being put off. I think we need to remember that there are all sorts of users on these boards, some who have developed a bit of a social structure here and others who only pop in for specific information and many who are not aware of the personalities of the various regulars. Threads like the awards thread, tend to create a image of cliqueshness that can tend to frighten newbies away. I would hate to see the DCL board become an exclusive club, so maybe we should all try to lighten up a bit and try to see things from the other person's point of view.

I didn't think the "lighten up" comment, nor any other comments were specifically directed at her. JMHO


In any case, I just returned to the DISBoards yesterday after staying away for several months because I was so put off by the cliquishness on the CB. Thus, I am very sensitive to this issue. The intention of my post was, in fact, to say that the DCL Board is not an exclusive club. Most, if not all of the posters on this thread were well established on this board when I joined last summer, and they all made me feel very welcome. That is exactly why I came back, even though I don't know when, if ever, I will be able to go on another cruise.

No one was trying to flame anyone, and Sandy you are right some of us know each other quite well and know when the person is joking. For others it may not be so apparent. I certainly don't want to scare away anyone, sorry if my comment did that.

Even though my birthday cruise is a private affair as the guest of honor I am waving the invitation requirement (provided everyone still holds true to the buy the bday girl a drink clause)
Party favors will be the luggage tags that I recently saw listed on ebay.. they are a RARE commodity so I know all my guests will feel honored to receive them, infact I will even throw in a customs declaration form because I am such a generous hostess. (only one per cabin though-even I have my limits )

Okay, first off, this has to do with the original poster being funny and a newbie to the cruise board (luvindisneyworld) taking the opportunity not to post a question, but to make a comment using the word "rude" in regard to my signature "by invitation only".

This was NOT the kind of thread that a newbie could and would have the "inside joke" on - and maybe not the kind of thread that someone new should have posted on (but she did and that was her choice). I'm not upset with luvindisneyworld for what she said about me. But honestly, I can't phathom anyone would believe that a cruise would be "BIO" since it is a public ship and Andy and I don't have the funds to rent it out for our private party.

As for being close, yes, many of us are - those of us who have cruised together or are about to, or have been around here for a long time do tend to know eachother better and can "joke around". I have never read anyone being excluded from any discussions because they have been new. It all depends on your on-line personality and questions, what you say and how you say it basically. And if you feel like you don't belong then maybe you need to post more often and become familiar to the boards so everyone can know you and you can know everyone.

There are a group of us who post regularly on all the Cruise threads and some who only post on a particular one. That doesn't make anyone better than anyone else - it just makes them more familiar.

Yes, LIGHTEN UP! What does that mean? It means that this post is about ME and MY SIGNATURE and if I choose to reply to a comment that I could have taken as insulting with a little laugh then so be it!

And I do reply to my private messages if anyone wants to continue this thread, but for my two cents, it's been fun but it's time to let it go.
