Skip into the ride one minute before closing. The posted wait will be long, but the actual wait won’t be bad at all.

I've done this and it's great. It's like getting an extra 30-45 minutes in the park. Then you get to walk out and the place seems empty. Really cool feeling.

Well...if you come to Disneyland lonely, or have an AP that lets you in every day of the year, maybe single rider is the "only way to go". But if you have a family, splitting up is killing the whole purpose of a "family" vacation. It's Good advice...for a family.

I think waiting in a 60 minute line while everyone is streaming past me in the single rider line would "kill" my relationships with my family. I would find a new family that didn't want to waste so much time. Different strokes for different folks...

I suppose every family is different. Ages of kids could be a factor, among other things. I also get the desire to experience an attraction together.

That’s said….we don’t go to the park lonely, nor do we go every day, and I DO have a family. I’ve been there with my family of five, which includes adult children. We did wait in a 60 minute line once for the sake of riding together. That was fun. After that, it’s all been single rider for us. That’s always been more fun, for us at least. Do we always get to sit in same vehicle with family members? No, but sometimes we do. The upside of not riding together (and not being able to hold hands or stare at our family members in amazement as we gauge each other’s reaction to the ride….which we achieved the first standby time, btw) is that it frees up gobs of time to do other things together in the park. Works for us, but I get that it may not work for everyone, especially if you have young kids.

Of course, less people using single rider means shorter lines for us…..so YES!… everyone should definitely avoid single rider!!!

Complete side note...
the Matterhorn is by far the BEST single rider line.
Which is probably why it can be quite long.

You already sit by yourself, so it is a no-brainer.

OP has a bad back. Matterhorn is THE roughest ride in all of Disney. You've been warned.
No matter what you decide, do not skip RSR. IMHO, the BEST ride in all of Disney. It's no rougher then your drive to the park. Carsland is a masterpiece.

Thank you! I have had to avoid Matterhorn for years, unfortunately. The closest I can get to a roller coaster is Pirates with those drops. Those aren't even very big but they tweak my back a little. I'm very excited to try RSR and to finally see Carsland

I am going to echo the suggestion to single rider or if you want to ride together jump in line right at close. There have been times recently that the single rider line is around 40ish minutes but the cast members at the entrance tend to warn you and tell you when its not going to save as much time as normal.

With kids, on your first time doing the ride, I definitely think it's worth waiting to do together. The ride is extremely well done and I think you'll get a lot more out of it doing it as a family.

But, I do NOT recommend trying to rope drop it unless you are an extremely aggressive rope dropper and will actually be one of the first ones there. Everyone else has the same idea so the line can get very long very quickly, at least that was our experience when we tried. On the other hand, I randomly looked at the app today around 6pm to get a sense of wait times and RSR was only 40 minutes. Good luck and I hope you have a great time!

I've seen standby waits of 120 minutes and been on the ride single rider in 10 minutes. I agree, I'd prefer to ride together as a family but saving 100+ minutes during an expensive theme park day certainly has its merits too.

Thanks! Good to know we can still ride it if we don't rope drop. I'm lucky to get out of the hotel in time for opening alot of mornings.
