RACK Rate

We are staying at AKV Kidani Oct. 3-10 in a 2BR Sav. View. We originally booked 4-10 and later decided to add a night at the beginning. Since we had already borrowed some points for our original stay, we decided to pay CASH for that one extra night. Cash for that one night in a 2BR SV is $675/night.

I have seen all the calculations and still am not 100% sure.

I mostly get 40% off room rate or free dining. There is a chance in the future they will not offer the discount when I want to go.

They increase the points it cost to stay each year.
There is a Maintenance fee that increases.
Your not investing money or it is costing you intrest (ya I know investments have gone south lately but mone have mostly recovered)

You do get a "suite" over a nomal motel room.
You do get a stove and fridge and eating table.
You do get discount of passes.
Pool hopping
Free Valet Parking
Internet Access

Just hard to pay for a vacation today for a vacation in a few years.

It's not usual that people pay rack rates for DVC rooms, the rack rate is not a good comparison for the value of a DVC ownership unless one would routinely do so at DVC or in a suite.

No, they DON'T increase the points each year. This is completely false. If they increase the points on some nights, they must come down on other nights.

Yes, dues go up a bit each year. But it's hardly a huge increase.

Lastly, DVC isn't an investment in a financial sense. We view it as an investment in our family fun, which we place at a premium.

That being said, I can sell my DVC for more than I paid for it....I've owned 13 years, taken probably more than 40 trips with it, and feel like I've gotten my investment back several times over already.

We own many "traditional" properties and our DVC and let me tell you, we LOVE our DVC! We've gone 4 times this past year! We just have a blast.

I am floored at the cost of rack rate and it just makes me feel even happier with our purchase! :cool1: :cool1: Will be there in 7 days!

For a somewhat more balanced comparison, compare points to DVC rental stays at $10/point.

Tell me about it! Last week I offered to rent points to our ins agent who is going to disney in may. I sent him the info on BCV and he seem somewhat hesitate, thinking about staying at Royal Pacific for 10 days and going to drive to disney for 4 days. I guess over the weekend they did their homework and tues got an email saying they couldn't believe the deal I was offering them and could they book it for 6 days?

All I know is that I'm getting to stay in 2 BDR in 3 days at the BCV that renting would have cost us over $2K, and rack rate would have cost us over $4K. Since joining DVC in 2004 we have taken enough trips, that even if we rented would have cost us as much as our purchase. I love DVC.
