Calling all Poly experts--- Tikiman???

I've read there's a race car track near the Poly....and that you can sometimes hear the cars racing...

My question is-- when do they have the races?? just certain times of the year? or on the weekends? or all the time? I haven't been able to find any schedule info on them..

I'm going to be there 11/27-12/1, any races going on then??

thanks for your help.

Nothing goin on there ( that you could hear) 2nd week in Nov last year when we were at the Poly

Thanks Dylansdad
I'll have to get Tikiman's maps out and see exactly where the race track is located and then try to request a longhouse on the other side..

Which longhouse did you stay in? I need non-smoking and my daughter wants a balcony. Tikiman had given me some good choices, plus I've been checking out his pages, which has GREAT info.

thanks for your help.

On certain days you could hear the cars going around the track. I thought the noise spoiled the atmosphere a little. We are laying in a lounger on a beach of white sand and then you hear race cars. It just made me wonder with all the land they have why they placed it so near to the Poly resort...smjj

There is a race track there but not used very often for actual races! It is used everyday for race car driving lessons. There are 2 classes one at 8am and one at 1pm. It all depends on the amount of people in the class on how long you will actually hear the cars. I hope this helps!

Jeanny, we stayed in Tokelau on the 3rd floor overlooking the quiet pool. We were at the end of the bldg away from the beach. It was nice and quiet and at the bottom of the stairs almost is the arcade, laundry, and neverland club. Short walk to GCH and volcano pool. No noise problems at all for DS's afternoon nap.

Dylansdad== I'm leaning towards Tokelau also... or Rapa Rui, I think that's the one closer to the TTC? I don't mind the walk to the TTC or back over to the GCH for the monorail... at least not right now as I'm not actually walking it... probably after the first hike -- I may mind it then!!

smjj-- I was thinking the same thing.... with all the land WDW has, why build something so loud so close to a resort??? things that make you go hmmmm!

The way the book I was reading, made it sound like the races went on and on all night!! SO maybe it won't be that bad after all.

Thanks for your help.

In all the times we have visited the Poly for breakfasts or dinners I have never heard the racecars at all. We just got back from four days there in Hawaii Concierge and never heard them the whole time we were there and we stayed at the resort all four days. We never ventured out to the parks on those days. I dont think that race track is really used that much at all.

I think it was a ludicrous place to locate that track. The first time we drove into the Poly after it was built we were aghast. Seriously, what would Walt think? However in all of our stays we've never heard the cars...thank goodness. It also is better camouflaged these days.

Once in awhile you can hear them from the WL as well but IMHO nothing loud enough that it could ruin your stay. They use to put up temporary bleachers and hold an IndyCar race(Disney 200) which went by the wayside a few years ago.It actually was the 1st race for the "new" Indy Racing League in Jan 96.Richard Petty holds a driving school there now where people with no racing experience whatsoever can drive a WinstonCup type stock car.

It's been nearly 5 years since we stayed at the Polynesian, but we heard the cars then and it was annoying to me. No so much as loud, but just there. Kind of like the people who have to have their stereo in their car turned way up. You can feel the bass in your living room, but you really can't hear it.
