Thanks!, guys! :goodvibes

I leave for SF later today. In the meantime, I have to go to WORK! Bummer! ;)

Anne, where ya been? We missed you. If I'm not mistaken, I think another WISH member or two will be joining Pat for the Detroit half but for the life of me, I can't remember who. Too much on my mind at the moment.

To all my fellow WISHers participating in races this weekend....

Go TEAM GO!

Susie--think Carrie is meeting up with Pat

GO WISH GO!!!!

I forgot to add myself to the list. I ran the Race for the Cure Charleston, SC this morning. There were alot of people there! I told myself that I was just going to enjoy myself and run 12 min miles. Well, I ended up pacing myself with some other ladies and decided to go for a PR. I finished in 29:26 according to my garmin. A PR by over 3 minutes for me!! It was a beautiful day and lovely course. I really enjoyed reading everyone's bibs about who they were running for.

Good luck to everyone else racing this weekend!!

Becky

All right Becky!! Great PR! :cool1: Glad you had such a good race. I've only done one Race for the Cure, but I loved reading the bibs too.

Becky,

Great effort! Congratulations on the PR!

So, I feel a little silly posting here since I was doing a Virtual Half (which is only distinguished from a regular LR by me paying $$), but feeling silly has never stopped me from posting before!;)

Harry and I took the jogging stroller/portable waterstop, and hit the streets at 7:30 a.m. Harry is all of 18 months- I was worried about how he'd take being trapped in the stroller that long, but judging by the fact that he grabbed my Body Glide when I was putting on my shoes and started putting it on his feet, he was kind of into it!

Anyway, we just went round and round in circles, diagonals, you name it. My neighborhood shrinks with every LR. What's up with that? So, that's it. Round and round. (Oh, and after going up a really big hill at about 3 miles, there was a lot of avoiding hills!)

Harry did well. He did feel the need to throw things off the stroller- which inevitably ended up run over by the stroller and then me. I don't know my "real" time since I usually forgot to stop my Nike+ when I had to go retrieve a book or sock. But, I did stop it when I took two gels, so maybe it balances out...

Here are my splits:

Mile 1: 9:59
Mile 2: 9:42
Mile 3: 9:53
Mile 4: 9:48
Mile 5: 10:05
Mile 6: 10:00
Mile 7: 10:06
Mile 8: 10:20
Mile 9: 10:48
Mile 10: 10:31
Mile 11: 10:23
Mile 12: 10:30
Mile 13: 10:40

Total time: about 2:15 (I misjudged the distance to my house and had to run an extra .1 mile- which irritated me:lmao: )

As you can see, I started to fade by the end. I took two gels- one at 5, one at 9. I hate them, but I hate sports drinks more, so that was all I had except for water. Wanted to try Sportbeans again, but forgot them.

Hopped in the tub afterwards for an "ice bath." It was really more of a cold water bath, but I tried. I do have one blister, but that's it-- next time I'll get Harry to give me a hand with the Body Glide for the big toe! Can I tell you how happy I'll be walking the 6.5 ToT next weekend!:cool1:

Here's Harry after the run. He's up to something...

Race for the Cure was AWESOME on Saturday--I even set a personal record (note: I said "record" not "best") 5K in 1:30--yes, an hour and a half!:lmao: My sis was running late and I didn't want my mom walking by herself. So I buried my competitive side and fought the urge to run. We had a great time, chatting and enjoying the event. I'll post some pics in a bit (when I unbury my camera) to let ya'll see what 45,330 women look like storming the streets of Little Rock!:thumbsup2

We're finally moving!

Just checking in to report that I finished the Detroit half, not sure about my chip time, but the clock said about 3:25 when I crossed the finish line, so it was definitely a PB for me.....I will post more later!

Oct 21 was the Duke City Marathon in Albuquerque. I did the 1/2 marathon. Have no idea what my official time is because official times have not been posted yet. All I know is that I had a good time out there. It didnt feel like a race...it felt like a long training run.

Saturday I go to the packet pickup at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Get my race shirt, chip, number and packet. Wander around the expo a bit, and I immediately make a beeline to a booth. My wife thought I was going to the Radio Disney booth, but there was a Disney Running booth there too! Got to see the medals for prior years. The cast member at the booth said he has seen the new medal, but that he was not allowed to give any details at all. He did talk about the upcoming changes to Disney's California Adventure. I was wearing my Goofy Challenge shirt from 2007, so he knew that I was a disney veteran. He said that the reason they moved the Disneyland 1/2 to Aug 31 (the sunday before labor day) as opposed to labor day itself was becase of the feedback given on the race surveys. So fill out your race surveys...the mouse does listen! At that point, we left and went to the Radio Disney booth to get my 3-year-old DD a Ratatoullie poster. Didnt spend too much time at the expo.

Sunday morning was cold and windy. The wind chill was below 40, so I scrap my original plan of short sleeves and shorts, and change to pants and short sleeves with a jacket. Should have kept the shorts. By about mile 1 the jacket was wrapped around my waist. Kept the gloves on the whole time. Practiced running through the water stations. I never spilled from me drinking...the biggest spills came from the exchange between the volunteer and me.

Here are my splits for the 1/2. Garmin was off by 0.2 almost the entire race. I blame the buildings around downtown Albuquerque for that.

mile 1 - 9:38
mile 2 - 10:10
mile 3 - 10:46 (bathroom stop)
mile 4 - 10:14
mile 5 - 9:59
mile 6 - 9:58
mile 7 - 9:52
mile 8 - 9:39
mile 9 - 9:50
mile 10 - 10:41 (gu and phone call)
mile 11 - 9:55
mile 12 - 10:10
mile 13 - 9:57
last 0.31 (per garmin) - 2:36 (8:22 pace)
Garmin time 2:13 13.31 miles, 10:01 average

I enjoyed the consistency of my splits, and I enjoyed the conversation I had with my running partners. Felt good on the run, no real foot or knee pain. I am glad that the Convention Center was open for the runners before the race. The 1/2 started 45 minutes after the full did, and 35 minutes after the 5k. Lots of standing around time. Carried water with me, which I am glad I did. The water station at 9 for the 1/2 was already empty. I feel bad for the full marathoners who did not have water available at 22. Fortunately it was cool but breezy. For example, mile 12 is run up Central Avenue back towards downtown from the bike path along the river. The wind was a tailwind at that time. I was getting outrun by cups.

My wife did the 5k and set a current PR since the birth of our 7 month old. She came in sub-40:cool1: !!

Thanks for all the well-WISHers, and congrats to all else who raced this weekend. Good luck to the Tower-of-Terror runners!

Paul
