Ok fair enough. Until I get the doctor's OK, don't put me on the list. Thaaaaat's OK. Really. :upsidedow It's only a tiny little local 5K anyway. Really. It's OK.

Ok, to be fair, gues I forgot to put my 5K on the list.

The official word from my doctor is...."It's up to you."

:headache:

Guess I'll see how it goes tomorrow on the practice run. In the meantime....

Go Team Go! Whooo hoooo!

:yay: :woohoo:  :cheer2: :yay: :cheer2:  :woohoo: :cheer2:  :cool1: :yay:

Oops...I forgot this one from the calendar. I'm doing another triathlon on Sunday. :)
3 weeks in a row! :cool1:

Well, I don't have a whole heck of a lot to report from my race this morning. It's a smaller scale event, I'd estimate maybe 100-150 runners and walkers total. The course was just as hilly as it was last year (thought maybe they could plow some of them down..help us runners out, you know) and the weather was what I thought to be nice and crisp, but turned very humid very quickly (just like the Minnie 5k for those who ran it a few weeks ago).

I ran the race last year in 25:05 (which got me 3rd place in the age group), and my personal best going into this race was a 23:46 that I ran back in March of this year. My goal was simple...set a new PR.

I started off very quickly and actually led the race for a few seconds before being overtaken by some stronger runners...besides, didn't want to ingest all of those police car exhaust fumes anyway...geesh. :rotfl:

Ran that first mile in 6:58 and had to slow down a tad after that, especially with the "rolling" terrain. I ended up crossing the finish line in 23:28, setting a new PR :goodvibes:

One would think that doing almost a minute and a half better than the prior year would merit an increase in placement, but I ended up placing 3rd in my group (35-39) once again which I was very happy to accept...especially since they made the awards look a little nicer this year :thumbsup2

So I'm off to go bike here in a little while and then prepare for part 2 of the weekend festivities: The Celebrate America 10k on Monday morning.

Good luck again to all others running this weekend! And thanks to everyone for the support...this team ROCKS!!

Scott - Two races in one weekend! That's awesome! :thumbsup2

Good luck this weekend WISH TEAM!!

Go Scott Go!! Yeah for you!!

This team does ROCK!!!!

Nice job on the PR, Scott! Rest up tomorrow for Monday. and have fun!

Scott - YAY for a new PR!! :yay: I knew you’d do it. Good luck on your 10K.

I'm sorry I didnt' get here to WISH everyone luck, but sending kudos to everyone who raced already this weekend, and huge loads of pixiedust: and :goodvibes to those doing events tomorrow!

Congrats on your PR, Scott!

Howard and I did the Spring Lake 5 (miler) yesterday on a agorgeous, breezy morning at the Jersey shore. We'd really been looking forward to seeing Karen and John, but they were unable to make it to the race. We really missed them.

As for my race? We didn't run this one last year because of a dear friend's Bat Mitzvah, so I am comparing my results to 2 years ago. Here is the write up from May 2006 race:

Overall, it was extremely enjoyable. My gun time showed a 15:30 pace, but my garmin time was a very solid 15:15 pace. Unfortunately, at the finish, they were collecting bib stips by 3 different people with absolutely no precision on timing or order. So, I was really glad to have my Garmin to give me an accurate read.

As for yesterday, this is one of those races I am truly proud of. This time it wasn't about finishing. I really wanted to push myself and do my best. My goal was to do better than a 15:15 pace, but with how exhausted I've been all week and not getting coffee yesterday morning, I'd resigned myself to being pleased with 15:30 overall pace, especially with an uncorralled field of over 10,000 runners.
My other goal was to run for 20 minutes straight to make up for the W5D3 couch to 5k workout I'd missed on Friday. I figured if I could jog 20 minutes, I'd feel ready to move on to the next week of training.
In reality, during those first 20 minutes of jogging, I wanted to walk sooooo many times, but realized that I'd then have to restart the clock on the 20 minutes if I was going to meet that commitment to myself. So, I did it. I jogged for 23:11 (the last song was longer than I thought). It was so exciting to do that. I actually realized right around minute 18 that I wasn't feeling badly at all, that I could definitely make it to 20:00.
My final time was 1:11:37 for 5.07 miles, an overall pace of 14:08, and I know it was slower at the end because of the crowds. I finished this race in tears, not just with my usual "Thank you, God, for my healthy strong body" prayer of gratitude for being well enough to finish a race, but for pride in doing it well.
I ran most of it, albeit slowly, and I challenged myself most of the time.
My splits were:
mile 1 -- 14:00 -- best 11:57
mile 2 --14:34 -- best 9:32
mile 3 --14:04 - best 8:48
mile 4 -- 14:08 -- best 10:32
mile 5 --14:06 -- best 10:59
final fraction -- pace 10:56 -- best 8:05 (probably the sprint to the finish)

This is a new PR for me. It felt like a breakthrough. I felt really well and strong at the end. I gave the course everything I had, but I was strong enough to do it and I know that with practice, my running will get faster and my running endurance will get better. I am really, really hoping this is the turning point for me. It felt so damned good to get that PR.

Scott - Congratulations on that PR! Way to go!

Cam - Awesome!!! You did such a great job. What an accomplishment! I'll keep my eye on this race for next year myself - Spring Lake is only about 1 1/2 hours from me.

Thanks, Kira! That would be so awesome! I am always hoping there will be other WISHers at our races!
