:jumping1: GO! WISH Team GO! :jumping1:

Good luck everyone!!

I feel really unprepared for the 5K I am doing on Saturday, my goal is just to cross the finish line.

Oops...I added a race....Skeese Greets Triathlon in New Braunfels, TX on May 3. (unless it gets cancelled because of the flu stuff--hope not!)

:)

Good luck to all the other racers!

Good luck to everyone, and especially Goofs Suzanne, Laurie and Beth.

I have a friend in that race!
I wouldn't worry too much about it being cancelled for the flu, my tri in the Houston area was held today.

And just how did your race go?? Hope it was good! Swim work out ok without a wetsuit?

Yeah, I was initially a little concerned, since they closed a bunch of schools in New Braunfels, and even were telling people to not go to church this weekend. But we're definitely on for tomorrow! Now I just hope it's not raining. :confused3

Here's my report on the CB&I Triathlon in The Woodlands, TX.

First off, this was the 6th year for this race and it appears to be well run and well coordinated with the local community. I racked my bike in the transition area early last night with no problems. I also arrived early this morning to set up my stuff in transition, also no problems there. I found some friends from some races last fall and this winter, and chatted with them for awhile before finishing my preparations.

I was in the second wave and started out slow so I didn't get caught in the mass of swimmers in the lake before I really took off with my wave. The transition area was well-organized and caused no issues for me, I also had a good racking area which was well located with respect to the exits. The bike was good and traffic control was excellent, I never once had to so much as slow down or worry about road traffic. The run was slightly new for this course (although I hadn't run this event before I had volunteered for it) but it was a nice out and back, looping through a nice community. I saw several friends of mine volunteering during the run portion as my local running club was helping out with that, so I was well-cheered for during that portion. I'm not one to be confused with a speedster, and I finished well back in my age group, but I did beat my personal goals for each of the 500 meter swim, 15 mile bike and 5K run events. My stated goal for the race was to be under 2:00 hours, and I really hoped to beat 1:50; in the end my official finishing time was 1:43:54.5! :yay::woohoo:
Afterwards, the post-race food and party was definitely better than average, and I got to sit around with my friends some more and discuss the course, future events and other stuff like that.

For my first real triathlon event, this was a great experience, and I am already looking forward to the next one, and the one after that, and the one after that,...

Richard,
Great report! Looking to do a tri myself once season comes back around. Season is over here in Florida for the most part.

Here is my report from the Long Branch Half Marathon in NJ:

This is my 3rd year doing this half and I really like this race. The last two years it has been easy to get to and parking was easy as well. This year they decided to have everyone park at a local horseracing track and bus to the starting line. Well, this was a BAD idea!!! The traffic was HORRIBLE! After stressing a bit that we weren't going to make it, the race organizers ended up delaying the race about 30 min. so everyone could get there, so that was a relief.

The weather forecast for today was for showers. Well, it should have just said rain...because it pretty much rained the entire race. I started off pretty strong and was keeping my target pace for about the first 5-6 miles. At that point, I was drenched and just ready for the race to be over. I pushed through, but my pace slowed down quite a bit. I knew that I wasn't going to be able to beat my goal time of 2:15, but considering the conditions, I wasn't really that worried about that. I struggled a bit from about mile 10-12, then picked up a little for my favorite part of the race....the last mile is right along the ocean and the race ends on the boardwalk, it is pretty cool! I ended up finishing in 2:23...so not really that close to my goal, or my PR, but, all things considered, I was pretty happy with my race.

Overall, the Long Branch Half is a great race. The course is pretty much flat with a few small hills, and the race organizers do a great job (with the exception of the parking this year!). There are only about 10,000 people, most doing the 1/2, with some doing the NJ Marathon which does 2 loops of the half course at the same time. With the exception of the start and first 1/2 mile, the course is wide enough so everyone is not running on top of each other which I really like. If you live in the area, it is a great local race!

I did my first "PF" 5K yesterday. (PF = Post (spinal) Fusion). This was my first race after 5 spine surgeries. I was in a class of my own. I lined up at the back of the runners and the front of the walkers. About half a mile into the race the runners had long since left me behind but I had left the walkers behind and I was running all alone! I caught up to the back of the runner's pack somewhere in mile 2. I don't know my placing. I came close to the coveted DLF for the runners. My time was... Oh who cares about time... ok, 40:28. I'm just so happy I finished!

Good job, racers!!!

Tiberius...glad to hear about your first tri and that you had fun! WTG!

I was super happy with my sprint tri this weekend. Won my AG! Swim was ok, but I didn't take the shortest line and it shows in my time (plus, I wasn't swimming too hard to rest my shoulder a little). I had the fastest bike time in my AG and could tell that I was probably in the front of my AG by the end of the bike. Both transitions were fastest in my AG. Run...my weak spot...usually I swim ok, bike strong, then watch my AG come back and pass me on the run. This was only 2 miles, so I ran as best as I could, knowing that they were coming back after me, but the only runners that passed me on the run were not in my AG.

Very happy...esp considering this was my 2nd tri back after shoulder surgery in November. yippee!

There are a bunch of tris still to come...see www.trifind.com or do they sort of peter out in the mid-summer?
Yeah, it's hot, but we are in full swing of tri season here in TX!

Good job, racers!!!

Betsy,

Outstanding on both counts!!
...and a sub 1 minute T2!!!
(Since I knew another racer there, I also knew where to find the split times. :rolleyes1 WTG, Betsy:woohoo:)

Hi everyone!

So here's my race report for my first half-marathon.

The good:
I had an awesome race with a time I could never have predicted 1:43:50. I placed 47th in women 39& under (765 total), 59th out of all women (1100 total), and 217th overall (2000 total).
I never hit the wall.
Water stations were well placed and well organized. Photographers were obvious and frequent.
Running on the bike path down the beach on a Sunday morning was incredibly pleasant.

The bad
The start was relatively unorganized. The marathoners and half marathoners took off together and there was no seeding, corrals, or time markers, just line up where ever you want.
The course was not flat as advertised. There were at least 3 VERY steep hills and I do most of my runs along the Boston course. Several of us were complaining about this to one another. I was on pace for a 1:40 until mile 4-8 where there were regular hills and sudden elevation changes. I'm by no means unhappy with my time, just annoyed that they called it a flat race, where I would have at least included rolling or hills at points.

Best,
Jennifer

:banana:Those who did their first Half Marathons - Woo hoooo!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Great jobs!!!:cool1::woohoo:
