I just wanted to take a minute and report from my race this past weekend. I wish I could have joined the large group at TOT but there was no way I could so I decided to test myself to see how my marathon training was going.

I chose the Silver Comet Trail Half Marathon in Atlanta. It is a flat and scenic course in the Atlanta suburb of Mableton. The weather could have not bee better for the race. The start was at 7:45 and it was about 45 degrees. By the end of the race it had only gotten to about 58 degrees so the weather was fantastic.

Personally I felt great and that was a problem because I went out to fast. I went through the first mile at 8:16 which was o.k. but then the next three miles I was under 8 minutes and that was going to lead to trouble later on. Well, to make a long story short I held on to finish at 1:57:06 (average 8:55). I was hoping for under 2 so I accomplished my goal but just not the way I had planed. Next time I will pay better attention to my garmin and hold my pace better.

Congratulations! That is crazy fast!! :cool1:

So, since I live in Georgia and may eventually put that one on my list, any pictures of the medal?;)

Really good job!

Good job! I am in GA also, please post a picture.

FANTASTIC job, Ken!! You've got to give us a little more detail.. a flat trail race?? How cool is that? :cool1: Like hoosmi said...you are crazy fast!!! Congratulations on making your goal!

:thumbsup2 Congratulations Ken!

Great time, thanks for taking the time to give us a run report, I love reading them.

Here is a picture of the medal. It is a spinner. One of the best parts of the race was the food at the finish line. There was a local establishment that serves mini hand pattied burgers and they were fantastic.

As far as the course goes it is one of those trails that is built on on old railroad bed so that is why it is so flat. the entire thing is paved also. The Silver Comet Trail runs from Atlanta all the way into Alabama. It is one of Atlanta's most popular walking, cycling, and running paths.
