Race for the Taste 10K & 3K Now Open(3/31)

If you have an AP don't forget to use the discount code: RACEAP09
I don't know how much discount you get as I have still not decided if I am going to enter, bur I asked for the code just in case.

Do you need to pay for park admission for the day of the race? I couldn't tell if that was what the one day ticket was for, or if you get into the race with your race fee and then the one day ticket is for another days' admission at a park.

Thanks.

You don't need a park ticket for the race or picnic. The race takes place before the park opens and the picnic is held in the parking lot. But if you wanted to stay at Epcot for the day, you will need park admission, which is not included in your race fee.

I can't make up my mind about doing Race For the Taste. I did it last year and it was fun, but Dh and I are doing EE this year and we'll be at WDW doing the Food and Wine the whole time between the 2 races :upsidedow .

It may be a little difficult to keep in shape during that time. On the other hand, 3 medals for doing 2 races is calling to me. :rotfl:

I really want to register for this race but Im confused on how I could get from my resort to wide world of sports or EPCOT to get a bus to wide world of sports. We have already booked our resort, we're staying at old key west. I want to register but I don't want to be stuck on race morning with no transportation. Thanks!

A lot of people take taxis from resorts that don't offer transportation! You can even make a reservation for a taxis ahead of time, I think. It's possible that you could find another runner staying at OKW who wants to split cab fare with you.

Another option would be to see if a DISer with a car is staying near you. Some people drive and others have rental cars. I know there was some carpool arranging going on for the Princess last year.

I saw the advertisment for this in Runners World last Friday night and signed up for it 30 seconds later! :cool1:

I just started running this year and have so far done an 5k, 8k, and 10k. Got my pace down to 8:34. Have another 10k next month and a 15k in september. All this is building to Seattle half marathon in November.

Anyway, I will be staying at AKV Kidani and will be driving over to Epcot in the morning and then taking the bus to the start. I wouldn't mind carpooling if we can arrange something. I don't mind picking peeps up at all.:)

Dh signed up for this on Saturday. He will be doing the 10K. This will be his first race, but he has been running regularly over the past year. I will go over to Wide World of Sports to see the start and then will take the bus over to the finishing line to join him for the post race picnic.

I will have an annual pass, but DH usually only spends one day in the parks every vacation. So the race entry plus single day admission ticket suits him fine. Is it really correct that this ticket is not valid at Magic Kingdom?

We will be staying at AKV Jambo House that weekend and were going to take a taxi to Wide World of Sports on race morning. Maybe we can sort something out as far as carpooling is concerned.

Corinna,

I wouldn't mind if ya'll rode over with me to Epcot where I will be catching the bus to the start or meeting up with you afterwards for a ride back to the lodge.

We are checking out that morning and moving to the Polynesian so I will need to be back at the hotel a little after 10 so that I can shower before we are without a room for the day. That would not be good. :rotfl2:

Cheers,

Michael

My cousin is runnning in the ToT 13k. This all sparked my attention!! I've never run at the world before!!

I see that there is a Race for the Taste run on Oct. 11. Has this been the date every year, or do they change it every year? As you can see from my ticker, we're going down in 2010, October 2-9 (which is Saturday to Saturday). Would there be any chance that the Taste Race (haha) could be October 9 next year?? If so, we're totally going to do it!!!

We've just started doing local 5k's (done 3, 3 more left), and really enjoy it! I'm liking those discounted park ticket option! Is that a standard discounted price for those that do ANY race, or is that price (that was mentioned earlier) race specific???

THANKS!!! :cool1:

Hi guys,

So I'm seriously considering a long weekend trip to do this race as I just found out in coincides with my fall break, but I have a couple of questions.

I'm waiting to see how finances align. Would it be safe to wait until about a month before to register?

Also, I don't know how to say this but has anyone ever done this race competitively instead of just for fun. My time in my last 10k (which is now 9 months old) would have placed me 4th in my age group last year. Is there anything I should know about "competing" rather than just "running" a race this size? Are there corrals or seeding?

Thanks!

That sounds great. I am sure we will be able to arrange something a bit nearer the time. We will come back from a cruise on the Disney Magic the day before the race and then spend 4 nights at AKV before moving to our home resort OKW for 5 nights.

As far as I can see, Race for the Taste has traditionally been on the second Sunday in October.

Just an update that I'm pretty consistently at a 14:55 pace! YAY!:cool1: And all walking, no running...

Dolphingirl47,

We decided to save some money and cancel the rental car but I will be grabbing a cab over to the beginning of the race if ya'll would like to share that with me. The buses will be running afterwards so I will just be grabbing a bus back to the resort. We can arrange a meet time closer to the race if you are interested. Just let me know before October 6th as that is when we are flying out and I won't have access to the boards anymore.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Michael,
that sounds like a great plan to me. I will give you a holler a bit nearer the time. We will get on the Magic on October 3rd so it will definitely be before then as I won't pay the ship's internet rates.
