I know from living and camping in the woods of Florida you have to make sure food and garbage are secure or risk being accosted by Raccoons. Is this any diffrent at FW? I love raccoons but I don't want to find them in my tent and I don't want to find Hansel and Grettel raccoon leaving a bread crumb trail through the woods with my food.

I haven't seen a raccoon when we have been at the Fort but we did have an armadillo outside our camper two years ago.

The first time we tent camped at the Fort, we left our bread and dry food in a plastic tote with a lid. The frist night we were so tired we did not hear a thing. During the night Racoons helped them self to our bread.

Thank you for the insight! Now I know to keep our grub locked in the trunk.

At our local state park we have these as neighbors:

I assume there are not any gators at FW though. Sorry for being green about this but I value your experience. :)

I don't recall seeing any Racoons....But I have seen gators down there!

Haven't seen a raccoon, but DH left a bag of scraps near the grill overnight <doh> and it was pretty much shredded in the morning (hmm... no beer, but could it have been the otters?)

There has been the occasional report of a gator in a canal... happened when we were there 3 years ago. A magic truck came and whisked it away lickety split.

Still, when my numbskull dog decides to take a detour in the canal by the dog walk I reel him back in like a mad fisherman landing a tuna!

I am suddenly thinking of the scene in "Vacation" when Chevy Chase falls asleep at the wheel and barrels through a neighborhood and a dog owner has to pull the dog back by the leash. :lmao:

You guys are SO funny! I don't know why it surprises me to hear of gators at Disney. I know in FL if there is anything bigger then a puddle you will find a gator in it. ::yes::
Beer stealing otters? Do they steal pina colda mix and rum also? :confused3 :)

REAL otters dont drink foofoo drinks like Pina Coladas!!! :lmao:

Ive never seen any raccoons at the fort (but I battle them at home everyday)...I be willing to bet the food shredding is more than likely those Ninja Trained Squirrels..they are ruthless...and deadlier than the so-called killer rabbits at the fort.

I was at the fort last May...which any self respecting redneck knows is gator mating season...and there were dozens of gators....mostly in the lake, but I did see a few small ones in the canals behind the group camping area. As long as you're not dressed provocatively(by gator standards)....they dont bother you....your chihuahua may disagree, though!!!

WARNING....keep a close eye out for any GATORDADs and BRER BEARs...they've been known to rip out your funny bone and beat you over the head with it!!!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled silliness.

No, but if they have Coke at home they'll steal your rum!

The squirrels are a TRIP. Totally fearless! We had waves of 20+ squirrels come through the camp, like a mini tornado roaring from tree to tree and across the ground. I was sitting in my camp chair this last trip and one of these furry waves ran through the site on either side of my chair and a couple of them actually ran across my foot! Here at home you can't get within 40 feet of a squirrel.

LOL...youre so right..they ARE a different breed at the fort. Our last trip, a guy a couple of sites down was napping in his lounge chair, right next to the picnic table that was well stocked and very inviting to ANY fury death machine. As the guy lay there attracting flies with his gaping mouth and 10 sheets to the wind....2 squirrels were right there, helping themselves to the smorgasborg left for their strict dietary needs. There was no sense of urgency...they seemed very relaxed and happy to keep it down so as not to wake their gracious host. Ya wont see stuff like that at the GF!!!

There was a small (maybe 2 ft ) gator behind our site in the 400 loop when we went oct 08 along with some big turtles didn't see any otters what a disapointment

I was naive enough to think I would just need to watch out for racoons! I'll keep an eye out for the ninja squirrles. ;)

I'll also keep a close look out for pirates....er otters....so I can keep my rum safe. pirate:

BigDaddyRog, you are hysterical. :)

I did see the otters sacrificing a few of the community board's chihuahua's during a drunk fest after drinking most of Donnie's (stacktester) spilt Kungaloosh pitchers during the 4th GG last year, but that was just because they were so drunk they didn't know what they were doing. :rotfl2:

Of course, it was all washed out with the sewer hose, so it's all good!:crazy2:

Hmm... they must not like margueritas too, as DH had his nifty half-gallon jug with the spigot on it sitting out on the table most of the time.

Oops... probably shouldn't have said that out loud. Some of other "mexican" otters might be listening! :ssst:

And if you did, the squirrels would be dressed in little tuxes. :groom:

You're going to be at the Fort early December again, right? Just wanna make sure I loop with a mug handy! :cool1:

Ah, sadly we're trying to squeeze some extra juice out of our APs this year and will be going earlier (Nov 1-20) and are going to miss the pre-holiday fun and a bunch of y'all.

But if anyone is in the neighborhood (hopefully 300 again) we honor refillable mugs too! :upsidedow

No, that is not a FW gator so no need to panic.
