I understand there is some confusion around how RAC will or won't handle
2nd bags because of new fees. When it comes to carseats, will RAC treat them as a second checked bag, or not? Its my understanding that the airlines themselves don't hold carseats against your allowable limit.

We have used RAC 15+ times now and have never needed to check a carseat because we always need them in the rental car to get to the airport. However, once at the airport we will go to the counter and check the carseats. The rep always checks our checked bag tags to make sure we have not exceeded the allowed checked bags. Our last trip we checked bags under each name and left some off (no restrictions yet -- 2 weeks ago), so when my DD got to the airport she had no checked bags under her name, so she checked them. This sounds confusing, but it may be something folks will have to do if RAC will not accept the grandfathered bags. Plus remember, some airlines consider the checked car seats complimentary (jetblue and united) while other airlines count them towards your baggage allowance (SW and Airtran).
