R: ISO anything that will alleviate morning sickness!

Ah, um,.... Could you be having twins? I only ask because one of my friends was SO SICK when she was pregnant with her twins. I always thought twins would be fun, but I think the trick is to have them FIRST so you don't know how "easy" just one would be! Hee-hee!

I would be interested to know how many of you that were sick had girls. I was very nauseous and had all girls. Everyone told me that you're sicker with girls, but I don't know anything different, never being pregnant with a boy. Just curious...

Everybody's stomachs are different
but ginger might help
eating peppermint always helped me
chewy ones or hard candies

Also found that smelling a bottle or cleaning stuff or shampoo
just had to be something that I perceived as smelly yummy & it
would settle me stomach (lemon/lime smell works for me)

I was pregnant with my twins. It went on and on and on. Just the thought of walking down the meat aisle in the grocery store upset my stomach. I ended up getting very anemic and losing quite a bit of weight. Finally I saw the office mid-wife. She put me on shakes. These might have frozen yogurt or ice cream, plus some protein powder, lecithin I believe, some frozen fruit some milk and some powdered milk. I could keep this down. And my iron started to go back up, and I didn't need to sleep every minute of the day. I was able to stay awake til 7:00 or so. I also had smoothies. The cold liquid seemed to help my stomach. I could also tolerate pasta with a little bit of butter and cheese and plain white rice. I did struggle with the nausea thru the whole pregnancy, however.

I had an ultrasound two weeks ago and it showed only one baby. I made the doctor look hard to make sure there was only one because I was dreaming I was having twins!! Anyway, only one in there! Thank goodness.

The nausea has subsided a bit with the seabands. Saturday was a really good day and I was able to eat pretty well. Yesterday I was back to feeling icky again, but not as bad as the past few weeks. So, I'm just trying to do everything I can to eat. I'm down around 3-5 pounds and sleeping quite a bit. I'll have to try the smoothies. That's a great idea.

Thanks again, ladies!

good luck! Just remember if it gets too bad or you vomit a lot see your doc right away. I suffered through hyperemesis with my last child and was hospitilised 5 times in the first trimester. Dehydration can cause you to go into labor, so if you can't eat or drink it can adversly affect the baby. It's very hard, draining to go through. Some people assume that you must feel great, when you really feel crummy. Also they can be insensitive and tell you things like people have babies all the time, or some women work the whole time, have the baby and go back to work. These are the people that have never experienced a "true" morning sickness. This too shall pass, and I hope for your sake that it passes quickly!

For Melk...
I had more sickness with my ds than my dd...just depends I guess. With my ds I never vomited but was queasy all the time and couldn't eat. With my dd I had a little bit of queasiness before I knew I was pregnant (which was really early...had a postive hpt 10 days after conception) and after that just some weird stuff with my taste buds...I'd crave something and then I'd get it and it wouldn't taste right.

You are NOT being a wimp! People who play down the misery of morning sickness have never suffered from it. Don't feel bad about feeling bad. You can't help it. I was sick with my son and my daughter, pretty much all the way through. With my daughter, I had to go out on disability. With my son, my 2nd trimester was the worst (weird, I know). I threw up a lot in the middle of the night with him, the entire last 6 months of the pregnancy - that's why I could still work during the day. With my daughter, I could hardly keep anything down - absolute misery. The Sea Bands didn't work at all for me. I lived on Coke Slurpees (do you have "7- Eleven" stores out there? That's where I got them.) Try some cola syrup over crushed ice. Don't worry about the caffeine; it's more important that you stay hydrated. You could even try Caffeine-Free Coke. Both of my babies were nice and big (DS was 8 lbs. 1 oz. and DD was 8 lbs. 7 oz.) even though I'm small (under 5'0"). So try to eat whatever you can get down, drink whatever you can get down (non-alcoholic, of course), don't worry, and rest, rest, rest! Good luck! I really feel for you.
