Where are your favourite quiet spot in both DL and DCA - and how long are they good for?

For example, yesterday we took DD5 to the Sydney Easter Show, which is the largest Agricultural Show/Fair in Australia. Size wise, according to g-maps, the perimiter is slightly larger than DL, around 75-80,000 people per day. At about 4 hours in DD wanted to site quietly and do some colouring. Just rest. Which we were able to do in the main arena for about an hour or so, DH&I watched the show jumping while DD sat quietly. She was good for another 4 hours after that, and then we were all ready to go home!!!

As we need the kitchen, we're staying at Residence Inn, so a quick pop back at lunch to the hotel won't be easily available.

So any favourite, non-time limited quiet spots. My only thought so far is doing loops on the train!!!

the back trail between BTMRR and FL has possibilities. The area in front of IASW, also has nooks and crannies. Down by the ROA you could even find a table.

My favorites:

*Animation Studios in DCA. You can just sit on the floor or benches and watch the screens and unwind
*Whitewater Snacks in GCH
*By the Great Hearth in GCH (not just for guests). They have adirondack rockers and if the piano player is playing it's just enough to put me to sleep.
*Downstairs at the Hungry Bear restaurant by the ROA. Usually you can find a quiet, peaceful spot.
*While IASW is under construction, I'm pretty sure the whole area around there is dead. They have a place directly across from it with benches.
*The Cinema on Main Street where they show old Mickey Mouse cartoons.

I think you could probably get away with staying at any of the dining area tables for up to an hour without any comment, if you had purchased some food. The question would be which ones would afford you and your husband something to do? Well, just off the top of my head, the Horshoe Cafe (might not have that name right) has entertainment. All of them offer plenty of people watching opportunities.

I am big on having breaks like that. My oldest likes to do the shooting gallery, so we always park nearby there. Sit on the benches for an hour or so.

I understand there is also some sort of picnic area outside the gates of DL?

A really beautiful place to relax for an hour would be the GC lobby. They have couches, a Disney movie lounge, fireplace (and even a bar, if you are so inclined).

For really peaceful dining, I love to go to Whitewater Snacks. They are always quiet and very nice folks working there. Like the GC, it is outside the parks, but easy to get to if you are at DCA.

Also, on that side, out towards the Pier, they have a boat play area (sorry I don't know the names) with an outdoor eating area, that is shaded. We hung out there for a long time one day too.

Hope you have a wonderful time.

The picnic area is huge and completely enclosed and its always empty. When we go in there its like a secret place. Big round stone tables. Very cool spot.

Where exactly is this picnic area? Sounds wonderful!

We also love the Animation Theater and Whitewater snacks for a quiet rest/break.

I am the same, love to find the quiet spots and Danger Mouse has outlined them well

I would heartily second White Water snacks, the food is good and they have tables outside so you can really enjoy the ambiance and the lobby of the hotel is awesome

personally over by the Grizzly River run water ride was a huge draw for me and I spent an hour watching the rafts come down by the geyser, there is a whole quiet walk way back there that is rarely used, I talked to a nice cast member back there for a half hour about the serenity of that spot

then if you are by GRR raft ride, you can walk out the dedicated exit to the GCA hotel and to your left is white water snacks, you can eat at your leisure if it's an off time, then go back thru that same entrance into DCA when you feel like it, DCA has lots of spaces that are not overly used IMHO

at DL I think it's more people dense but when i was there main street was never too bad and if 50 years of magic is still running w/ steve martin and donald duck, that's very enjoyable. go in the theatre early and you can enjoy the detailed displays, and that's very low key too

Enjoy!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Just outside Goofy's house in Toontown is a small play area. Not very big....just some small soft-ish things to climb on. And you can run in and out of Goofy's house. Since there is only 1 way in and out, my husband and I were able to sit on the benches while our kids played there. It was fun for them to not have to be hovered over, and nice for us to relax. Not sure it if is always this quiet, but when we were sitting there, no music was playing. It seems like almost everywhere in the park there are speakers going. It was nice to get a break from that.

Where is this? I understand it to be between the 2 parks, but can't picture where it is located. Sounds wonderful........

Some of my favorites:

Mentioned already, the Golden Horseshoe is great in between shoes because it's air conditioned and can be quiet. I guess it's only good up until the show starts, but there's quite a length of time in between shows.

Outside the Tiki Room, in the "waiting area" there are benches and tables. It can be quiet until it fills up with people waiting for the next show, but I like to get my Dole Whip and sit inside there and people watch.

The area across from the Plaza Inn (I can't remember what that place is--it used to be another restaurant but now they do pin trading there). There's some tables with umbrellas and chairs set up and is quiet. No time limits/restrictions.

In Critter Country there's shade and a lot of places to sit--I only know that because I sit and wait for my group while they ride Splash Mountain. That's when I take a break, people-watch and relax :)

There is an area over by the Matterhorn which is a covered patio with several benches, where you can watch the ducks float by. It is always quiet over there, and usually I see other families trying to get their kids to nap in their strollers.

I like to sit and people watch on the bricks near New Orleans square!

On New Years Eve, I took not one, but two naps on a bench outside the first aid station on Main St. Very quiet and it was one of the few places in the park where there were no people at times. Although be warned if you are taking a nap, there is a CM enterance right there and I had one of the penguins from Mary Poppins tap me on the head as he walked by. Scared the bejeesers out of me:scared1:

Hey - thanks for all of the ideas. I'll be keeping the ideas from this page in my ideas notebook. I really appreciate it. Sometimes we just need quiet time, even when out, and these help a lot.

-I like the space between Fantasy Land and Thunder Mountain.
-We also enjoy the amphitheatre area at DCA in front of the water overlooking Paradise Pier. We usually enjoy a beer and some wine there.
-There is also the area at DCA where it once had the chinese food that has a whole lot of empty table and not alot of people hangin' out.
-There is also a place by the Matterhorn that extends out where you can sit and it hardly has anyone around either.

That is all I can think of for now. I will keep pickin' my brain for more.

I find that in the Hollywood back lot in DCA down by Monsters Inc its fairly quiet back there. If you have a rest by the Micky Water fountain right in front of Monsters Inc or I believe there are park benches around there to sit on, if not for the chairs for "Drawn to the magic" by the stage.

For the evening only... there's a raised seating area by Casey Junior that's great to sit at and watch the fireworks. That time of night there's never alot of people around that area. imo it's quite romantic with all those fireworks going off overhead.

I am not sure what it is called but its next to the guided tours office in the front of the park next to City Hall. There are some chairs back there to sit down and relax and the kids loved getting out of the crowds for awhile.
