quiet dinner for 20 adults + 7 babies?

glad you like my idea... we'll be using it ourselves when we have our GG in sept :)

re: pizza, if you opt to eat disney's pizza, you can easily carry it yourself and save some money (they charge to deliver) and it's only a few footsteps...

re: cocktails/beer/wine...there's a bar right at the pool, so no sneaking required :)

You should have the beer in cans. Glass is not allowed in the pool areas.

I love the idea of a pool side party! When the group is as big as 20 if you sit down at a restaurant there is no way to talk to everyone. If you have it pool side people can get up and move around. More importantly parents can give the little ones something to do by swimming with them in the pool. Great idea!

This sound selfish of me, but I would be ticked if I went to a 2TS signature restaurant to be seated next to a party with 7 babies. Even more ticked if I was paying OOP. And even more ticked if I'd arranged to have my own rugrats stay with a sitter or in a kids club for my signature date night.
The only restaurant you can guarantee you won't have (many) children at is Victoria & Albert's. I've been to Narcossees and other 'signature' restaurants where I've dealt with young kids acting out of line. However, I do not let ruin my meal because its something you have no control over.

Will any of you have a car? The reason I ask is that I personally think the Pizza at the resorts is kinda gross.

But the poolside party is a great idea. As a matter of fact we did it during my parent's 50th Anniversary family reunion trip.

My mother ordered a 6ft sub from Super Walmart (It was so cheap! Like $28)
They had all sorts of other stuff too like a big box of 50 peices of chicken with rollls and sides for like $35

She looked up the nearest Walmart to the hotel through their website's store locator. She then called the store and ordered the stuff. She arranged to pick it up right before we wanted to eat so she didn't have to worry about storing the stuff.

Yes I realize its WDW and I realize people will bring their children. My concern was the idea of 7 babies at the next table. I doubt many of us have experienced that at a signature restaurant.

Didn't know that. I have seen people with bottles of wine down at the pool every year I do down to Disney. No one ever said anything.

Though I really like that idea, it has been my experience that the closest Walmart is like 10 or 15 miles down highway 92. Sub maybe, but chicken might get cold before you get back to the resort!

Gigi, :thumbsup2: the group loved your suggestion so a pizza pool party it is! I'll try the pizza before we order a bunch of it although people can also order stuff from CS at the resort. Some people have cars so we could bring in pizza from outside the resort if it's awful.
Is there a pool bar at POFQ or are you talking about the one at POR? Two of the families are staying at POFQ, but are we allowed to use the pool at POR? Which would be better for our pool party?

Guests at POFQ can use the pool at POR -- and vice versa. They are "sister" resorts -- thus, pool-hopping between them is allowed.

i'm so glad you/your group liked my idea... both pools have bars... check the hours... i'd go w/whichever resort has the most people staying at it... and if it's even, i'd probably go for POFQ (just 'cause it's a smaller more intimate resort and the pool is really close to the food court! LOL!)... maybe if you have time, scout out which one has more tables/chairs?

if you opt for off-site pizza, i'd bet that some of the pizza places actually deliver to the resort, therefore your food would still be hot ('cause they have those insulated bags)... but if i remember correctly, food court pizza was pretty decent (or i was very hungry! LOL!)

again, glad you like my suggestion... ENJOY!

p.s. what are your dates? maybe we'll join you (i come complete w/two babysitters!) ;)

Gigi, LOL, you'd have to fight to get hold of those babies...we're a group of online buddies who've known each other only online for over four years and can't WAIT to get our hands on our virtual "nieces and nephews". But what a sweet offer!
We'll be having our pre-cruise (not Disney :( ) meetup dinner/pizza pool party on November 4th. It should be quite chaotic! I don't think anyone will actually taste their food since we'll all be too busy visiting with each other and cooing over the babies.
3 months, 3 days til I leave.
:cool1:

wow, that's great... this past spring i got together w/a dozen online friends who have been chatting and sharing our lives together for almost ten years! it was awesome to see everyone IRL! (some of us had met in smaller groups, but to have 90% of us there in one place for a long weekend was amazing!) ENJOY :flower:

Gigi,
Yeah, we're REALLY looking forward to our meetup. I have met a few of the girls in person already so it'll be great to see them again, plus I am SO excited to actually meet the rest!
Everyone has been posting that they are loving the pizza pool party. I think some people were feeling a bit stressed about coordinating arrival times at a restaurant. Now they don't have to worry about it!
I'm hoping to be at one of the parks until dinner, so I am going to assign one of the moms to grab some tables and chairs. I figure they'll be at the hotel with the little ones napping.
