Just back from a quick weekend trip and as usual, no pics (sorry!) We tried some new to us places this time so that was fun! It was me (I am a vegetarian), DH, DD9 and DD5 (mostly veg too). Here we go:
Ghiradelli at DS- We all shared our favorite - Ocean Beach Sea Salt Caramel Sundae. Had a lot more fudge than caramel this time but was still delicious as usual!
Sprinkles- We were meeting up with a friend and wanted to bring him some dessert. We walked into Sprinkles with a short line but only one person was working a register (while about 4 other employees were standing around talking) so we just used to ATM instead. We got one Chocolate with Chocolate Frosting and one Vanilla with Vanilla frosting. Both were just OK. A little dry and not strong flavors on either. We all shared and preferred the Vanilla to the Chocolate.
Flower and Garden Booths:
We were in World Showcase at 11am because well, we were hungry and we were also hoping it wouldn't be as crowded (Saturday) that early in the day. Overall it wasn't too bad as far as crowds go.
We actually started NOT at a booth but at La Cantina de San Angel for empanadas. We got the kids meal of those as they came with chips and apple slices in addition to 2 empanandas- perfect for us to share. These were good. The lines were long at 11am and only 2 cast members were working. This was the longest we waited for food around the world though.
We stopped in Germany at Bauernmarkt. No line but the 3 employees were really disorganized and it seemed like no one knew what they were doing. We got the potato pancakes and the warm cheese strudel. The potato pancakes were terrible- they were more like onion pancakes and hardly cooked thru. We each took a bite to try and threw the rest away. The strudel was really good- flaky, tasty cheese filling. I could take or leave the berry compote-- DD5 loved it, DD9- not so much.
We went to Italy for meatballs (I don't eat them, neither does DD5) but DH and DD9 LOVE meatballs and they said these were better than expected so that's prob pretty good!
Stopped at Japan's for Frushi. First time having it. We really liked it. Was different and tasty.
Smokehouse in America- DH originally was going to get the pork slider but after seeing the reviews for the Burnt Ends Hash, he went with that. He was it was OK. DD9 said the BBQ sauce was good with it.
Florida Fresh is where we got DD5 a Watermelon Cucumber Slush (non-alcoholic, obv). She loves cucumber and watermelon and chose this over ice cream. We all tasted it . It was refreshing. Tasted like a frozen lemonade slushy with a hint of watermelon. DD5 liked it.
And our last stop was not a booth. We tried L'Artisan des Glaces for the first time. Wow. SO SO good. DH went with a Caramel cone. I went with a coconut white chocolate cone and DD9 chose the Croque Glacé which is the brioche ice cream sandwich. She went with chocolate ice cream (no sauce). Everything was excellent- creamy, fabulous flavors. We wouldn't get the sandwich again tho. It was great to try but the ice cream there is so good, we all felt the brioche took away from that. Can't wait to go back and try other flavors.
We spent the evening in Animal Kingdom to see Rivers of Light. We ate at Yak and Yeti for the first time. All of us thought it was pretty good (we are kind of hard to please as we don't think much of the food at Disney). As a vegetarian, there isn't much on the menu. Thanks to these boards, I had read that the Vegetable Lo Mein contained fish product in the sauce. I asked the server about it and he brought a chef out. The sauce DOES, in fact, contain fish product (it would be nice to note this on the menu) but they offered to make me the same thing with a soy sauce instead of the lo mein sauce. It was nice of them and the lo mein was good. DH and DD's said the honey chicken was good as well as the rice and steamed vegetables. We opted out of dessert there as we wanted to pick something up and eat it while waiting for ROL. Besides, and I know this isn't a popular opinion on here, the dessert wontons there don't sound appealing to me- sorry
Unfortunately, I found AK offers very little bakery kind of options. I think like at MK, you can walk into a number of places and find the cookies/apples/marshmallows, etc. and we only found one place like that at AK and it was crowded with a party of some not-so-nicely-behaved children in there so we left in search of something else. Didn't find anything as we didn't want ice cream (having had some earlier in EPCOT) We ended up grabbing some popcorn and a bag of Goofy's mickey head licorice candy.
The next day was just MK snacks:
We had a less than mediocre breakfast at BOG in MK once before but wanted to try the cupcakes so we ordered two master's cupcakes with the gray stuff. They were good. Frosting was lighter and more whipped topping like than expected but tasted good. Cupcake wasn't a strong chocolate flavor but was moist.
Sleepy Hollow- new to us- we weren't in the mood for more chocolate so we ordered a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream to share instead of the nutella waffle we had been eyeing. After looking at the picture and knowing the nutella waffle came with fresh strawberries, I assumed the strawberry waffle did too. I shouldn't have assumed, I guess, because the waffle came with a bunch of strawberry topping- not fresh strawberries. I don't care for that stuff. Neither does DD9. DH and DD5 liked it. They put SO much on though that it made the waffle soggy.
We stopped at the Confectionery on Main Street on the way out to grab some stuff for later:
Mickey Rice Krispie treat with M&M's, white chocolate chunk cookie and a sugar mickey cookie with the ears coated in blue. The krispie treat was good, the cookie was OK- I have had the regular chocolate chunk one before and prefer that to the one with white chocolate too. The sugar/shortbread cookie was a little almond extract-y but good.
Heading back in June for DD's 10th Bday trip! Will be back to update you then with some reviews of the California Grill, Tusker House and more... maybe I will even remember to snap a pic or two
