I don't understand why this keeps cropping up. Why can't people drink without straws?

Some of us prefer it. I bring my own.
Yes I get it, some people prefer straws. That's an obvious response. The actual thing that I don't understand is why people need to put insignificant personal preferences over making a change for the greater good (in this case, keeping plastic waste out of the environment). That's the part I don't understand. We all have preferences - that doesn't make all of them important or not worth deviating from.
If that message and energy was applied to the complete waste of plastic water bottles, I would believe consider the plastic straw more seriously.Yes I get it, some people prefer straws. It can be recycled, but it’s expensive. There are communities around me that are abandoning curbside recycling because plastics are too expensive to recycle. We would be better off selling less 1-use bottled waters. Those are recyclable.
Straws are not.
I am very conscious about not using straws and have bought a few sets of stainless steel ones from Amazon that come with a little bag and cleaning brush.
Been asked about them so many times they are a great idea.
