I hope my DIS friends can give me some suggestions. I and 2 of my adult DDs are going to a wedding early Nov in San Jose. We are thinking of flying into San Francisco on Friday mornng, do some sightseeing the rest of the day. Travel to San Jose on Saturday for the wedding and stay overnight. Back to SF on Sunday for more sightseeing and then fly out Monday afternoon.

Only one of us has been to SF before. Does anyone have any suggestions to make the most of our quick trip? I have just gotten a travel book but would love to hear ideas. Should we rent a car or use alternate transportation?

I’m cross posting this on the community board because it seems to get more traffic.

Renting a car would be best especially when traveling to/from San Jose.

We like staying in a hotel near Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 area. From there, you can travel by cable car to other major site seeing spots. The bus system is also very good. We have taken a bus from near the Wharf to the baseball stadium and to Chinatown.

Lots to see and do in SF and you can easily get around the city without driving...but driving down Lombard street is more exciting than walking down it!

You might want to do a hop on/off bus tour to see as much as possible of SF. We used one that had a stop near our hotel in the Fisherman's Wharf area. You might look into going into SF with no car (using a shuttle service ,public transit or a cab)then renting a car in town to drive to the wedding. We have never used a car on our trips to SF but know many hotels in town have high parking prices ( just like you have in other major cities)
