Quick trip report and comparison 6/17

7:59:59 and 11:59:59
Amazing report! Thank you for all the details. You must have been wiped out.

What is your preferred method to watch the world clock? Did you have one phone in your group to watch it, or is there an App that worked well?

Great info, thanks! I saw some photos online from a mainstream media (LA Times?) and it showed people lining up all the way to the transportation/bus area. The article said that now that no masks are required, it's crazy there. But, reservations are still required, so how is that possible? I'm asking because I have reservations for tomorrow (Sat. 6/19) and I'm wondering if we'll have to wait for hours just to get in.....

What I have gleaned from reading 10000 messages here in the past 3 days, Harbor entrance is crazy from early until they open security, then security goes pretty fast, and it's smooth sailing after that. Since the park opens at 9, I'm not planning on heading over until about 8:45 the first day and hope for the best. I think if you wanted to be FIRST in line, you'd have to be there at like 6:30. It's not worth it to me.

I'm also reading that ride waits are very reasonable, which tells me they have not increased capacity yet. I didn't see a flood of new available reservations after June 15.

No masks means I could see so many smiles!

Thanks for the great report and all the details! Your sentence about the smiles was my favorite part - that must have been amazing to see!

We are stuck in Canada for a few more weeks at least and can’t wait to get back to the magic. It will likely be next year. So for now I’m just reading the reports and absorbing it all from a distance. I’m so happy for those of you who can be there!

We had one DS graduate university and one DS graduate high school this year. We gave them their 2021 grad ear hats tonight!

Ha ha, I really was! When I had an AP we rarely stayed longer than eight hours so this is new territory for me!

My Apple Watch is the same as the world clock so I looked at that and held my iPhone in my other hand.

Are there any rides in California adventure that I need to know what to use the virtual que for? This is all new to me. I need to go on this before I leave home?

Very interesting report! I was there too yesterday (DLP only); I tracked actual vs. listed wait times as well for anyone interested. Rides are in order, starting with the first ride at 9 AM:

  • Space Mountain: Posted 30 minutes, actual 36 minutes
  • Splash: Posted 5, actual 4
  • HM: Posted 30, actual 18 (to stretching room)
  • POTC: Posted 25, actual 16
  • BTMR: Posted 30, actual 8 (everyone around me in line was surprised at the discrepancy)
  • Indy: Posted 20, actual 28
  • Snow White: Posted 35, actual 11
  • Casey Jr: Posted 5, actual 2
  • Star Tours: Posted 10, actual 9
  • ROTR: virtual queue (BG 90; called around 1:45, entered at 2:03 PM): 53 minutes to first pre-show, including about 25 minutes of waiting in line when the ride broke down (luckily a fairly short delay)
  • MF: Posted 30, actual 21 (to pre-show; 25 to chess room)
  • Small World: posted 10, actual 9
  • Roger Rabbit: Posted 15, actual 14
  • Peter Pan: Posted 30, actual 23
Wait times were overall very short, particularly in afternoon and evening (I left fairly early and could have easily done more).

As of right now, always subject to change, the only ride in California Adventure that you can't just wait in line is Web Slingers. You need to get a boarding pass for that

Thank you so much for the info. It's always helpful when people post listed vs actual wait times.

If ride waits are that low, I don't see a reason for us to head over early into the rope drop maddness... hopefully it stays that way a little longer!
Times for certain attractions were higher mid-day but they dropped down at the end of the day. First two hours and last two hours were the best though we got foiled by rain/lightening in the first hour that closed all the outdoor attractions.

very helpful trip report, thank you! I want to try the Barbacoa nachos, but I’m worried about the spiciness. So to gauge whether it’s doable let me ask this question… are they about as spicy as hot wings? I can’t do hot wings, but I can do a little bit of spice.

I had them twice. Once they were very spicy and once less spicy but still had a good kick. I suspect one of the salsas/sauces is pretty spicy. Maybe you could request to leave off the spiciest?

I don’t eat hot wings so I can’t compare, sorry!

Just back from the parks and exhausted but I wanted to share a few thoughts and comparison between today’s visit and our visit 6/8 to DCA.

First, we had SO much fun both days! However, today without the masks made things so much more enjoyable in terms of being able to walk around and eat and drink, as well as staying cool in the heat.

Our last visit it was so difficult to obtain and consume food and drink, and we left the parks dehydrated and starving. Today, we snacked all day and stayed hydrated! My child could snack in lines! It’s was amazing!

Also, with distancing gone, the ride wait times were AWESOME! There were lots of people in the park but rides were loading more efficiently and faster.

Here were our posted/actual wait times in order (first ride at 9am, last ride at 9pm):

Snow White: 15 minutes (9am)
Carousel: Walk on
Teapcups: Walk on
Casey Junior Train: Walk on
RotR: 7 minutes to preshow (broke down and escorted off, issued Multiple Experience Passes)
Roger Rabbit: Posted 10, waited 10
Gadget’s Go Coaster: Posted 20, walk on
Gadget’s Go Coaster: Posted 20, actual 5 minutes
IASW: Posted 5, actual 5
Webslingers: 15 minutes to preshow
RSR: Posted 55 minutes, actual 30
RSR: Rider switch (used fast pass return/10 minutes)
Incredicoaster: Posted 10, actual 7
Monsters Inc: Posted 20, actual 25
Winnie the Pooh: Posted 5, walk on
BTMRR: Posted 20, actual 10
BTMRR: Rider swap (used fast pass return/5 minutes)
Pirates: Posted 10, walk on
Carousel: Posted 5, actual 5
Dumbo: Posted 25, actual 10

A few thoughts:

No masks means I could see so many smiles! People were overall in a very upbeat mood.

We entered the parks at 8:48. Either there was no rope drop or they dropped it early. Rides were open at this time.

A freak rainstorm shut down a bunch of outdoor rides for the first hour.

Mobile order worked well for us today but we ordered everything ahead of time in the morning except ice cream from Gibson Girl which we were able to get immediately when we wanted it.

We scored RotR at 7am (thanks to help from a DISer) but it broke down on us after the storm trooper room and it was down again when we retuned that evening to ride so we never got to ride it.

Scored Webslingers at noon outside Oga’s Cantina with pull down method. Everyone loved the ride.

Oga’s was more subdued than usual. The music volume was lower (maybe so we could hear the masked CMs?) and DJ REX wasn’t talking much. Blue Bantha (blue milk) not available.

Avenger’s Campus entrance was PACKED as we tried to enter to ride WS. This was due to the Spider-Man stunt show that happened as we were walking in. It was hard to enter the area but happy we caught the show! Slightly stressful as we had only minutes left in our BG.

It wasn’t as hot today as predicted. Still warm and sticky but totally manageable.

The potato skins at Lamplight Lounge are amazing and nothing like “potato skins.” They are fluffy inside like mashed potatoes and crispy on the outside like fries and have two delicious sauces and just where have these been all my life? Barbacoa nachos also fantastic!

Parks are back to “business as usual” as if covid never happened. No distancing, no signage, very few people in masks. It felt like a normal summer day in the parks but with low wait times and no entertainment. More food open and more stores. Pooh Corner is open! No trams from the parking structure.

Happy to answer any questions anyone might have!
Thanks so much for your report. I'm going back on 7/7, and really looking forward to visiting without having to wear a mask.
