Cast: Myself (Betsy), 41 y/o searching for pixie dust
Mom, 72 y/o along for the ride

Only glitch as far as getting out of town was that I can't find my favorite sunglasses...and as you know, it's all about looking good! haha! But I found some that would do.
Flight to MCO on Continental was fine. I can never pick out WDW from the sky, though...are there any hints for that? Or are the planes too far away?

Rented a car from Dollar ($116 for 3 days)...expected something along the lines of a Ford Focus or Taurus...got a PT Cruiser! how cool is that?! (again, it's all about looking good...LOL!) Thanks to excellent directions from the transportation Dis-Board, I had (almost) no trouble getting to POR (just one wrong turn, but that was me and not the directions).

Walked in to the POR lobby...very nice...not the Poly, but not supposed to be. I lived in Louisiana for 4 years, and felt "at home" at POR immediately! Check-in went so very quickly! We drove around to our room in the Acadian House mansion. We were on the 3rd floor...I know there must have been other guests around, but we never heard anyone! Our room was charming! I could see how it might get a little crowded if you are travelling with kids, but it was fine for mom and me. We were on the side facing the outer courtyard (not the river), but we were hardly there and enjoyed the courtyard on the other side (nicer landscaping, trellises, etc) as we walked from place to place anyway. Would not pay extra to be facing the other side if they make a distinction between water view and standard view at that resort.

We caught the boat to Downtown Disney. It was a full moon, and as we rounded one bend of the Sassagoula River, there was the moon, not too high in the sky so it looked HUGE, shining along the river. It was almost unreal! Dinner at Downtown Disney was at Wolfgang Puck's express. I had tortilla soup and garlic mashed potatoes and a glass of wine, and Mom had chicken tenders and mashed potatoes. It was plenty of food, all for $23.00. And the soup warmed me up! Did I tell you that I was looking for warm weather? NOT! Mother Nature is challenging me...it was warm and sunny in Texas while we were gone, and cooler in Orlando! (and now that I'm back, it's cloudy and cool and wet here again... )

We did a little shopping, mostly at the scrapbook store, and then took a bus back to POR (warmer than the boat!).
Had to get to bed, 'cause there were "big doin's going on" the next day! ::MickeyMo

Sounds like a nice start to a vacation with mom.

I too, can never see WDW from the air (of course I'm never at the window seat).

Add me to the people that can never see Disney from the plane. I think some people have super vision or something.

I'm staying at POFQ in May, and the boat ride sounds great!
