My DH is coming in July with us but will only be able to stay 3 of our 7 nights. When the reservation was made, we thought he would be staying the whole time. Now he cannot get off work the full week so will fly home early. What options do I have with the QS dining plan? I believe I need to pay for him the whole week which I don't want to do because it will only be me and my 13, 11, and 8 year old left for the remainder and we'd never eat all his food. Can I separate my week without canceling my ressie (I don't want to take a chance of losing it)? What are my options?

sounds like breakfast ,lunch and dinner for those who stay longer, and extra snacks for the trip home :thumbsup2

There's no way we'll eat his food .... my kids are small eaters as well as myself. I will forgo the plan and cook in more if necessary, but can I split the ressie without canceling the one I have?

If you have enough points, make a new reservation for the days that your DH will not be there, and drop those days from your original reservation. To my knowledge they can not simply split an existing reservation.

If there is no availability, or you don;t have enough points to make the second reservartion, then you are stuck either paying the DDP for the entire time, or not using a dining plan at all. The DDPs just don't particularly work well for the way many DVCers travel, including part-time guests that may be in a room for only a few nights of the reservation. The DDPs were designed by Disney Travel for the folks that book a typical family vacation where everyone arrives/departs at the same time to simulate the popular all-inclusive vacation style that is popular right now. All inclusive plans are really not designed to save money, they are designed as a convenient pre-payment package.

Thanks Chuck.

I think for the sake of ease, we'll just skip the plan. I was going for making life easier with it just being the kids and I, but we'll cook in more. Not a big deal since they'll want to swim mid-day anyway and I can just fix something before/after that for them.

I think that's wise. For most people, QSDP doesn't seem to be a very substantial discount at all.

If your kids are small eaters, the plan wouldn't really be cost effective for you anyway. The only thing with the QSDP is that it makes it easy with kids. No need to carry or give them money for their treats.

Seems to be best for a weekend stay where the free mug cost is divided into fewer nights. On longer stays, the mug cost is divided into more days..
