It's been a while since we've done the free QSDP offer, and back then, desserts were included with lunch & dinner. It looks like from the description of these plans that desserts aren't included? For the drinks: beer, wine, milk shakes, hot/cold coffees, soda, bottled drinks, and mixed drinks... does that mean the Frozen Golden Margarita ($10.50) at Anaheim Produce or Mandarin Orange Vodka Lemonade ($8.75) at Flame Tree BBQ would be included in your lunch/dinner? Pretty much any drink except the souvenir cups? If allowed, we're likely to mostly go with the slushy, shakes, and ice coffees, but an occasional frozen margarita would be nice.

Desserts are no longer included with QS, no.

Many cocktails are now included, however. There is a thread with reports of actual experience.

Thanks - I didn't see a sticky that sounded like it discussed the topic, I'll try to search for something in this forum.

Yes, they took away dessert.
Under drinks, it does say some exceptions apply, yes, it mentions anything in a souvenir cup isn't included. Also mentions things with bottle toppers, or glow cubes...

Thank you brertoad! I may be in the minority, but I would still prefer the desserts over the change to alcohol. I just don't want to be slowed down in any way.

While it's true that dessert isn't included anymore, they did add a second snack for each day, so it evens out. You can always use a snack credit to get dessert.

It actually doesn't. Since the QS plan includes two meals, two desserts were lost and replaced with one snack credit. If the same amount of food was included there would be three snacks per day. The regular DDP does still include the same amount of food, but QS DDP doesn't. Though I do prefer having snack credits instead of desserts with every meal, and this year alcohol being included really does add a lot of value IMO.

I didn't even think about the fact that the snack credits used to be 1 and now 2 per day. We've only done the QSDP once (2013?). There are mention of people swapping their drink for a dessert in the thread I linked on post#5 here... Kringala Bakery dessert for a drink. seems like sort of a risk if the CM (especially if English is a 2nd language) may misinterpret your request to swap out the drink for a school bread and charge a snack credit? Any experience substituting items successfully or not worth the trouble?

We've done it, usually at the resorts since we always have our mugs. I know we've gotten cheese fries, milkshakes, (before specialty drinks were included as a drink option,) and cupcakes instead of drinks.

The addition of alcohol wasn't what caused the loss of desserts. They removed the desserts a year before they added alcohol.

I may have been missing out, but I thought that when desserts were included in the DDP for CS meals, they were small and not very great. Sure, there were exceptions where you could get a huge cupcake or something similar, but for the most part they were not overly impressive. Even with 1 less dessert, I'd rather take the snack credit and be able to get what I want and when I want it. At times, some of the snacks are enough for 2 people.

Dusneyfav4ever mentioned above that the reg DP was equally compensated by the 2nd snack but the QSDP lost 2 desserts for its 2 QS meals in favor of the 2nd snack. I would have thought the reg DP had 2 desserts for its 2 meals too but I’ve never had that plan or cared to know specifics about it.

I enjoyed the included dessert for the 2 qs meals per day under the QSDP.

Yes, typically I’d choose a mini ice cream, or Vader or Frozen cupcake, but a milkshake counted as either a dessert or your drink at a few places, same with smoothie at resort. Starring Rolls had the huge/delicious cupcakes for dessert, like the butterfinger ones that were a meal in itself.

It obviously depends on individual preferences. I generally don’t drink alcohol, and I’d spend snack credits on dessert items, mainly ice creams (aug trip). For me, I’d prefer the 2 desserts for my 2 QS meals over the extra snack and alcohol option. But most adults really really want that alcohol (probably upset they don’t get both the desserts and the alcohol). Common theme in the Quick Service Alcohol Selections thread is how to get a drink for breakfast and how to have your son/daughter’s meal be a water so the mom/Dad can order a 2nd drink:). An occasional frozen margarita or the loaded milk shake at min and bills would be nice. But I’m a lightweight, and I don’t need the extra grogginess at WDW. Home on the wknd, no prob.

For a couple of years before they cut the desserts, you were able to substitute a side for a dessert with your meal.

So for example we got onion rings at Flame Tree, fried rice at YaknYeti and french onion soup at BOG instead of dessert. We could really stretch our meals. Taking out the "dessert" at two quick service meals and adding one snack does feel like a bit of a loss for us.

I am much happier with the snack credit, because for me, the dessert was always a package of chocolate chip cookies or a packaged brownie. At least now I can find a gluten free snack.

QSDP use to include 2 meals (both with desserts) and 2 snacks per night. Then it went down to 2 meals with desserts and 1 snack per night. Now it is 2 meals with no desserts and 2 snacks.

Yup, the loss of snacks/dessert is independent of the addition of alcohol. I'm just happy you get something more for a change.

I had no trouble in 2017 swapping drinks for desserts or sides. We don't generally drink our calories. Now that alcohol is included, my husband will probably partake, but I am hoping I can still get a side or dessert instead for 2018.
