Here's the quick rundown of our meals during our Dec. 7-Dec 18 trip:
Chef Mickey's breakfast- fun, chaotic, food like my college campus cafeteria, good character interaction, kids had a blast, like a kiddie rave with kiddie crack (candy in the cereal dispensers) loved it, but only at WDW
Trail's End dinner- YUMMMMMMMM!!!! That food is QUALITY! Low cost, too, though we were on the dining plan. Really good food, good service, great festive holiday atmosphere as it was a Saturday night. Busy but no rush.
Cindy's lunch- food not bad, not fabulous. They run that thing like a well-oiled machine, which means no room for spontaneity. Fun to eat at castle, but for character interaction, Akershus (last trip) is far, far, far, far better.
Whispering Canyon Cafe Dinner- good but not to-die-for food, great atmosphere, great service. Didn't expect lots of the "tricks" but got a few and had a great time. Lots of kids. You won't feel uncomfortalbe if yours are noisy or like to run around.
Trails End Breakfast- AWESOME! No crowd, really quality breakfast and good service. Great way to start the day.
Tony's lunch- Totally forgettable meal. Lower than Olive Garden quality food. (Don't tell me I'm wrong, I've lived in Italy.
) Service meh. Food, meh. Atmopshere: lots of tired people, tired kids. But my preschooler loved it, so for that only it was worth it.
Chefs De France- had cancelled my ADR due to the reviews here. Was having a bad day at MGM (everyone tired from CHristmas party the night before, missed many shows at MGM due to arriving late, it was a hotter than expected day, etc) so while meeting Remy and Emile I called to get a Chefs ADR for that day. DH'S FAVORITE MEAL OF OUR TRIP! My SECOND FAVORITE MEAL! Atmosphere was GREAT. (We've both spent time in Paris and this really took us back.) Food was great. Service was really cheeful. We were not rushed at all. In fact, we were really allowed to take our time, and all courses came in a timely manner. Wine pairing was great. Had a fantastic time here. The chicken dish (the "French menu") was spectacular and the reason we like French cuisine. Sometimes all it takes is a chicken and some potatoes.
Le Cellier- My favorite meal, dh's second favorite. Not much to say here. Everyone knows the deal with LC.
Tusker House breakfast- SECOND BIGGEST SURPRISE. Got it last minute. Really great, very extensive buffet. Character interaction was good, service was okay, not bad, not great. Food was outstanding and unique with good basic offerings as well. Really happy we ate here.
Kona dinner- total disappointment. Overhyped. WAY overhyped. Food was actually not very good. The menu overreaches, I think. As Bourdain would say, "too much going on here" in many of the dishes. Sticky wings were YUMMY though. Service was good. It was WAY too hot in there. It was a bit chilly outside and the heaters were out of control. Cream puff given for dh's birthday was truly bad. And I don't complain, ever. I eat ANYTHING served to me, but that was inedible. Cheesecake was good, but I've had frozen cheesecake from grocery store that was about the same quality. Way overhyped restaurant, IMO, in part due to tonga toast loyalty (wish we could have tried that) and the little touches like sprayed chocolate designs on dessert plates. Don't flame, as i was SO amped for this meal and had not a teensy suspicion that we might not like it.
That's all! I'll post back soon with what we ordered.
