Quick questions for F&W vets.

We went in '02 and '03, but didn't really focus on the booths. We just saw it as a bonus to being in Epcot, and don't really recall the details.

NOW, the kids are older, and we gonna hit the booths. HARD.

I printed out allears list of the booth offerings ( http://allearsnet.com/tp/ep/fw07/fw07b.htm ), but they don't really show the B&W offerings yet.

Based on your collective memory, are there any recommendations I should try? (I'm hoping for Tusker Lager, but if it ain't here, we're staying at AKL and I'll get some at Victoria Falls.)

Any particular foods?

Also, will the booths be open during the evenings?

Holy cow!

I just reviewed the 2006 list and I could spend a LOT of time at the Hops and Barley Market and the Great Beers of the World!

(note to self, pack plenty of aspirin)

We really like the booths that don't have representation at the World Showcase- such as Poland, Austria, Africa. It is always great to try the different wines from all the countries. We don't have a favorite but love the whole experience.

DH drinks an occasional, and I mean occasionallll, beer. It usually has to be something unique.
Last year he could not pass up the Samuel Adams tent by American Adventure. Among their other selections they carry a special beer for the F&W. That is what he drank. The beer just came in a plastic medium size typical beer cart cup.
Their beer types seemed unique from what I recall -- like a cherry or harvest blend. (Not a beer drinker, so don't recall exactly or how many varieties.)

Canada
Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup (pretty good, glad it was small and I didn't get a big one at Le Cellier)
Maple Glazed Salmon with Arugula and Roasted Corn (This was the favorite of both me and my mom of everything we tried the last two years)

United States
Maine Lobster Roll (This would've been decent but it had way too much onion, and the onion they used was very hot, it would've been so much better with a better quality onion or a smaller amount of it at least.)

India
Coconut Indian Rice Pudding (This sounded soooo good, but it wasn't!)

I think it was China... there was a tea booth that had a plum wine drink that was super good.

Except for the Sam Adams F&W brew, all the other varieties should be available wherever you can find Sam Adams Boston Lager. Especially the Cherry Wheat ... I've seen that all over the place

This was my husbands favorite, minus the mission space LOL. He prefers that before lunch!

It seems like most of the items are different since the last time I attended in 2005. Canada, China, New Zealand, France, Japan, Mexico, and Australlia seem mainly unchanged, but everything else except for one or two items sound new, at least since two years ago.

At Canada, the cheddar cheese soup, is wonderful, though I've only tried Le Cellier's soup, and I'm just assuming this is the same one. I'm hoping they have ice wine this year.

China's booth is exactly the same menu as I remember. I though the two items I tried there, the chicken and the ice cream, were good, but nothing wonderful.

I didn't try anything from New Zealand, France, or Japan, though from what I remember, the menus are the same, except I believe the France booth had creme brulee instead of sorbet.

Australlia took the beef skewer off the menu, and that's the only thing I had tried, though I'm eating at Ohana this trip, so I really don't need a beef skewer.

I loved the quesadilla at the Mexico booth, and that is one of only two recipes that I've recreated at home since 2005. (The other was a south-western wrap that I haven't seen on the Food and Wine Festivals since.)

I'm looking foward to trying several items this time though, including selections from Peru, which has a crab dish, and a duck one. Oklahoma's selections sound good too, especially the buffalo. I also want to try the spice cake at the South Africa booth, and India sounds good.

I'm really disapointed to not see the Rosa Regale not listed on any menus. Luckily I know they sell it by the glass in Italy, so I'll just have to get it there.

Chicken Sha Cha (I got this for Max. It was huge and looked delicious... apparently it was because he devoured it and absolutely refused to let anyone have even the tiniest little taste!)

The Australian (lamb and shrimp) and Irish booths are always winners for me. New Zealand used to do a great lamb chop dish, but switched it a year or so back to the Lamb slider and it is yuck! I've probably tried something from most of the booths over the years. Nice that they change some of the countries from year to year.

Can't wait to try out the Oklahoma booth.

Peru
The causa I had last year at a cooking demo was magnificent. Hopefully, the sample will be good too.

Canada
Cheese soup & salmon are alway good
Spring for some Inniskillin Ice Wine if you have never tried it before.

Greece
Spanakopita is great

France
Escargot dishes have been good in the past
Goat Cheese Tart - one of my favs last year - but very filling. These and Mexico's Chiliquiles were my two favorites.

Japan
California Sushi Roll
Kirin Ichiban beer is good

United States
I liked the lobster roll

Italy
Try the sparkling red Banfi Regal Regale. Always a popular drink at the festival. Have it with dark chocolate.
PS: The lemon gelato is also good at the little cart
Their pasta dishes in the past have been good but filling

Germany
Their strudel is awesome, but buy a much larger portion at Sommerfest for only about $1 more
I love german rieslings.
The sausage was good last year

South Africa
Durban Chicken is always interesting
Ever had a Pinotage? It goes great with red meat (maybe the lamb from Australia?)

China
Get extra sauce with the Chicken Sha Cha. The sauce is superb.
I get a larger portion of the ginger ice cream from the take-out restaurant for only a little bit more money. I love it, although it can suffer from mishandling.

Ireland
The hot leek soup in the past was fantastic. I'm hoping the cold is also good.

Argentina
Spicy beef empanadas

Mexico
Chilaquiles are fantastic. Ask for extra green chili sauce (spicy but good)
Quesadillas are yummy but not as interesting
Conga juice is refreshing

The Food & Wine Fest is a great time to try dishes you have never heard of before. I liked most things I tried (except for the flavors from India, Morocco and Turkey).

Share each dish so you can try a variety of them and return another day for your favorites. I get full on only about 3-4 samples so if your time is limited, you will need to choose carefully.

Also, will the booths be open during the evenings?

The booths are open all evening. They close them down during Illuminations, so if you want anything to enjoy the show with, get it before hand. I am not sure when the booths close on the late EMH nights.

Last year there was one booth near the start on the Mexico side (Peru mmaybe?) that had strawberries in the syrup with some sort of herb. (Someone here may well recall what the herb was.)
It sounded weird and unappetizing, but it was soooo good. I am hoping they have it again this year. I will just hang out by that tent. And make sure I remember what herb they used so I can do it at home!

Actually you can. I got some in a seasonal "brewer's mix pack" that is available now. Of course, you also get several other varieties in the case.
