Quick question, this the first time I am travelling with passports for me and my DS7, flying out of Buffalo. Now that we have passports do I need to bring Birth Certificates as well or can I leave them at home so I wont lose them.

All of our birth cert's are now in the safety deposity box ... only to ever come out when I need new passports. ;) Having passports is truly a lot less hassle and questions. :)

At the passport office , the attendant said that when you travel, keep your birth certificate somewhere safe ( at home) so that if you loose your passports in another country, you can call home , get your birth cert. info and have a new passport isssued from the Canadian Consulate.
Only passports are required when travelling.

You don't need your Birth Certificates, but when you travel it's best you take photocopies of all your documents in case you passports are lost or stolen. Then it's a lot easier for the Canadian embassy to help you out and a lot quicker. This happened to a family friend and they were told if they had photocopies of all documents (even the passport), it would have taken them less than 48 hours to get new documents. So now before we leave I have a copy of all documents with me, and a second set at home (just in case I lose everything and whoever has the key to my house can get me the info just as easy).
