i'm making sweet n sour meatballs in the crockpot for tomorrow night - i like to bake them 1st for about 15 minutes in the oven, can i do that tonight - bake them for 15 minutes then put them in a large bowl in the refrigerator and put them in the crockpot tomorow?

thanx

Yes, the meatballs will be cooked through if you bake them for 15 minutes so they will be just fine.

I would agree with PP, your concern is making sure the meatballs are cooked through before you put them in the fridge. You should never par cook any meat and than put in the fridge to finish cooking at another time. That's where the problems is. Ask my DH who two years in a row got sick from his aunt's chicken at Christmas until we discovered that this was what she did! :scared1: Some people's systems can hack it but some can't.

What recipe are you using for the sauce? I bought chile sauce and lime, but cannot find the recipe that uses those ingredients now. I am making them tonight!

1 jar of chili sauce, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and 1/2 jar of grape jelly!

2lbs of meat!

My SIL makes them this way all the time and it is DELICIOUS. When she first told me the ingrediants I thought the combo sounded gross but, then I tasted it and was very pleasantly surprised.

I've browned the meatballs on the stove top in a skillet before putting them in the crock pot. Either way should be good.
Instead of grape jelly, I've heard of people using peach/apricot jelly or cranberry sauce.
My mom's recipe is the grape jelly and chili sauce. I'll have to try to add the lemon juice next time!

Heinz has a recipe using Ocean Spray Cranberry sauce & Heinz Chili Sauce at www.UltimatePartyMeatballs.com

Note that there are two versions for this...stovetop or Crockpot

I haven't tried either yet, but may try the Crockpot version tomorrow.

Has anyone put spag sauce over the meatballs to put on croissants, or would you use the chili sauce and grape jelly?
