I've been reading a lot here lately because I'm planning on taking my parents to WDW sometime soon. My mother has arthritis and my father has heart problems (that's the short of it) and neither of them can walk for very long distances. My concern isn't the parks, since there's all kinds of info about that, it's getting into the parks from the parking lots.
I've never taken notice of how far the handicapped parking is from the park entrances, or the TTC in MK. Is there a drop off area? I just can't seem to remember.

There are areas where you can drop someone off. They are often close to the front of the handicapped parking areas. I know that at Epcot, there are some designated drop off parking spots. Not sure about the other parks, but you could drive close to the front of the handicapped lot, let the person off and then park in one of the farther away spots.

If you are staying on site, it's much easier to take WDW transportation to MK. The buses let you off very close to the park turnstiles. If you drive, you have to walk to the TTC (no tram service from any of the handicapped parking areas) and then take either the monorail (up a steep ramp) or the boat (a longer walk) to get to the park entrance.

There are some wheelchairs available in the handicapped parking lots that can be used to get to the park entrance - there is no guarantee that there will be any available for you to use though.
If you don't have a wheelchair and the person with a disabiliity is able to step up to get on the tram, WDW suggests that as the best way to avoid walking.

Oh, that's a really good idea. I never thought of that. My mother's able to get up and down steps, as long as there's something for her to grab on to.
Thanks!
