Quick question about driving?

This year my newly single FIL is coming with us to Fl. Well we have a explorer so yes it will be a tight squeeze with him and the 2 kids, but..... He thinks it is to old and has to many miles to make the trip! It is a 2000 and has 72000 miles never and I mean never has given us a problem! And it has always had routine maintenance! We have a new Z-28 I told him if he wants to squeeze in to the back of that this is the only other vehicle we have! I dont know what to say to him! He mentioned the train but with a toddler I am a little leary about the Train. So basically my question is what could I say to possibly reasure him that our car is not going to completely explode on our way there!

We keep our cars for many years. We drive down every year from CT and have never had a problem. For example, in 2001 we were driving a 1994 cutlass supreme that had made the trip every year since 1994 and everything was fine.
Is it possible that your FIL is looking for an excuse to get out of going for some reason? What does he suggest? You could always tell him if he is uncomfortable he could either fly or take the train and meet you there. Another option might be to rent a car for the whole family to travel in if he is that uncomfortable about your car. I hope it works out for you all either way.

That is the funny thing we didnt ask him to go until he dropped about fifty hints So we finally asked him to go and he was very happy about it! I also did tell him to fly or take the train and we would meet him there,but he said no he wanted to be with us. I have a friend that has a 1984 chevy conversion van and they still use it to go to Fl.!!! I told him that too!! I dont get it I also told him that I have AAA and we arent doing a marathon run this year we figure we will stop half way down and stay over night! So I guess he just needs to get over it! Thanks!!
