Quick question about borrowing points

We're planning the next few years' worth of Disney vacations and I've run into a problem with our points. Last year my dad had to have major surgery and still made it down to Disney, but because he was technically on medical leave, he has an additional two weeks of vacation he has to take so we naturally booked a WDW trip for this spring. The problem is because of this extra, unplanned trip and a heavy 2018, we'll have borrowed all of our 2019 points and will be short about 60 points to complete the year.

So my question is this: can I borrow into 2020 to finish off my 2018 plans or should I look at booking a hotel for that last stay?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

What's your use year and which months are you planning to vacation?

You may only borrow 1 year ahead. What that is depends on your UY and the dates of travel.

DVC does offer up to 24 one time points per UY that may be rented for $15/pt and used to book reservation at the 7 month mark. That might help you a bit but not for everything if you are 60 points short.

Thanks for the replies. Our use year is December and I've already done the math and it can't be done on the points we have or with the extra points for $15. Looks like we're either shortening our vacation plans or booking a hotel room!

Another option is to seek another owner who is willing to transfer points into your Dad's account. You may have to accept more points than you actually need, though, as DVC limits transfers to one per use year per membership, either into your account or out of it, but not both in the same use year.

You could also rent the additional nights you need from another owner and then request MS to note on both reservations a desire to stay in the same room.

There are some disadvantages / things to know about both options. But it sounds like you have some time to investigate further. Good luck!

And if you did rent the reservation for the additional nights then as long as it's the same room type and the owner agrees to assist you can get it linked to any reservation you made with your remaining points so you almost certainly wouldn't have to move.

But, this can be a nice chance to stay somewhere else that you wouldn't normally.
