quick MP3 help needed

I got an MP3 for Christmas and I think I already did something to mess it up.
I was loading some songs onto it and my computer shut off. When it came back on my MP3 player had the message safe to disconnect. It will not shut off or do anything. the computer is not recognizing that it is attached to it either.
Any suggestions?

Also take out the usb cable from the computer and unplug the mp3 from the usb

then put it all back together and try again
