I have a cousin who lived on the opposite coast as me. She is a sweet girl, but I have only met her a handful of times, each time at funerals. I was surprised to be invited to her wedding, def not flying out there, but I would like to send a gift. I think she just wanted to include everyone.

How much is appropriate? I know here on the east coast there are all kinds of rules about covering plates etc, but since I am not actually going to the wedding, how much is ok to send?

50?
75?
100?

I am having a big fight with my mom on this one, she thinks I need to send 100 and sign my ADULT sisters name to it too, since my sister is irresponsible and prob won't acknowledge the invite. I told my mom to put my sisters name on HER card if she wishes. I do not want to seem cheap, and I wish my cousin and her finace well, but I do not have a lot of cash right now. How much is ok to send?

There are no RULES about covering your plate and even so, you aren't going anyway so there is nothing to cover. Send what you would normally send an acquaintance and don't worry about what others are doing.

Also, with all the Christmas sales going on-you can probably get a nice $100 gift for $50--I wouldn't sign your sister's name to the card either

I don't know them at all, I would have no idea what to get them.

First, I definitely would NOT sign your sister's name

Second, I would say give what you are comfortable giving, or can reasonably afford. If you prefer to send cash that is fine, but it is perfectly acceptable to buy something (on sale!) from their registry and have it shipped directly to them. You are acknowledging her big day and sending good wishes, but not streching your budget too much in the process
