We are looking into renting points for a standard studio at AKL for end of October - early November. Just heard from the rental company that Jambo House is no longer available and am super bummed. My boys were really stoked about the pics they saw of JH.

If we do Kidani, are there any standard rooms that have somewhat partial views of a savannah like at JH? Also, is there one area of Kidani where the walk to JH would be shorter? I think we'd be going to JH a lot for the amenities there. Also, what could we request to not have a crazy long walk to our room at night? We will have a car, but I have no idea if it will be better to drive to the parks or use the buses for us.

Does Kidani have its own lobby for check-in, or would we go to JH for that?

Thanks!

Kidani has it's own lobby and check-in desk.

The shortest walk to Jambo will not have any of the standard views with partial savannah views though. And some of the partial savannah view rooms can be quite a walk to the lobby although the ones that are right at the fence divide between the pool and the savannah are relatively close. But parking is under the building so having a car makes the location a little less important IMO unless you foresee running to the lobby a lot. The walk to the Kidani lobby from some of the rooms is similar (or maybe closer) than the walk from Jambo rooms out to the parking lot and some of the partial savannah view rooms at Jambo would have been quite a walk to the lobby too. Percentage wise though it's very few standard views that have the partial savannah view at Kidani so nothing I'd count on getting. They do run a shuttle van back and forth between the 2 buildings and you can also get on any park bus as they will stop at Jambo before heading to the parks. To get back you could take the van or else a Disney Springs bus so between walking and transportation it's pretty easy to get back and forth. The really nice thing about both places is the animal viewing around the resort so even if your standard room doesn't have a partial view you'll have access to great viewing.

For using the car or driving to the parks, since you can park under the building it may very well be easier to drive to most of the parks although we tend to just bus everywhere. I'd definitely bus to MK though since the parking lot requires a tram and then monorail or ferry to MK and a bus drops you off right up by the entrance. AK - I'd probably just bus over there too. The other 2 parks would be a toss up for me.

Thanks so much KAT4DISNEY - so, if we make our priority to be as close to JH as possible, AND we actually get such a room, what kind of view are we going to have in a standard studio? Parking lot? :(

See if this link works. DVC news has pictures from 4 different standard view studios at Kidani. The first one would be in an area closest to Jambo. You do have the parking lot there but past it is the sports courts and BBQ area. Not bad at all IMO. That is the main road going up to the lobby so there will be bus traffic on it during normal park hours.

I don't think that worked right? I got a list of random rooms (a few showing a picture), with no indication if they are in JH or Kidani. The first one with a pic says it's over Jiko, which means it's in JH, right? Oy vey. I don't know what to do anymore...I'm ready to give up on renting points and stay at a moderate, but my kids are dying to stay at AKL. Kidani just doesn't look as nice to me - and in pics I swear the bed doesn't look like a queen!

I'm not super concerned with animal views from the room - it'd be nice but we won't be in the actual room a whole lot. I WOULD like a comfortable bed, however - and would prefer to not have to walk forever to get to our room at night, or JH lobby. And I really do not want to be looking at a road or parking lot - am I dreaming?

I enjoy the moderates but they are nothing like the deluxe IMO. Given the choice I'd choose the deluxe but I know not everyone would. And moderates don't have balconies so you don't really have views. The entrance will be outside into your room vs an inside hallway into your room and a balcony to the outside at Kidani. As far as bed size - it is a queen but it will be a sleeper sofa for your kids where a moderate will have 2 beds and I think many of them have put in queens instead of the doubles they used to have. Some walks at moderates can be long too and always outside because you are walking to different buildings.

Do you mean room 7531? Yes, that's not bad - that would be on the side closer to JH? The only pic I saw there that I DID NOT like was 7709. Ugh, it's just hard to swallow that we COULD end up looking at pavement at Kidani, when a standard view at JH would've meant we would NOT be looking at a parking lot... shoot, what to do!

Hey, what if we broke up our stay? Would we maybe get some nights at JH then? Or am I just being crazy now?

The only doubled left in the Mods are in CBR's Pirate Rooms, which are terrible anyway.

I understand when the one you really want isn't available it's disappointing. But, you did say you wouldn't be in the room much so I think it's going to be deciding how much it would really bug you if you did get a room looking over the front entrance. That's most likely to happen if you request close to the lobby. But, when comparing to a moderate you're not going to have any balcony or any view from your room so I don't think it's really losing much if the decision is between Kidani or a moderate.

I don't know how long your staying? If it's a lengthier stay then maybe but there are standard views at Jambo that look out over the roof tops and really aren't stellar either. I'd probably go for not moving because there's no guarantee about the Jambo standard view either. Standard view is more for savings and savannah view for views from the room. I can honestly say that having less than ideal room views has never ruined any of our trips. The great room views have enhanced but nothing has ever ruined it.

Yes, I know I'm probably overthinking this! We are trying to make all the right choices since this will probably be our only family trip to WDW, and I have researched so much my head is already spinning. Since we have never been, it is hard for me to guess at how much we will actually be in the room, but my gut tells me we will mostly be in the parks - although we do have an off day to hang at the resort.

I spoke to the rental company and found out the JH studio is only unavailable for the last night of our stay. So we COULD stay at JH for most of the trip and then move to Kidani for the last night or two (we are staying 7 nights) - but that seems a little complicated. Again, I did not feel a huge NEED to pay for a savannah view...just did not want to be looking at pavement while sitting on the balcony at night when the kids go to bed...

KAT4DISNEY, THANK YOU for all the help; I really appreciate all the info!

First, as I understand the situation, you can currently get a Kidani standard studio but not Jambo through a broker for "late October/early November." One piece of advice: if your dates include November 3 (Thurs), 4, or 5, then I recommend you stop thinking about it and make a reservation either for Kidani or a split stay now. Those dates are part of the Wine & Dine race weekend and though Kidani is open much of the year at 7 months out, there is a real risk its studios could be gone before then for some or all of that weekend time, which weekend happens to be the highest DVC demand weekend of the year, one of the only two times during the year when even SSR can disappear before 7 months out (the other is December 31).

As to Kidani standard rooms and some of the questions you raise, see the following map
http://www.wdwinfo.com/maps/Kindani_Village_Map.jpg The front entrance faces west and there is a south wing on the right and north wing on the left. Jambo is located to the east above the "Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Kidani Village" sign in the upper right hand corner of the map.

On the map you will see the lobby and the 8 building pods that make up the south wing, with the last one being small, and the 9 building podes of the north wing with the last one from the lobby being half sized. The resort is very long. The hallway walk from the end of the south to the the end of the north wing is about 2/3 mile. The front door of Kidani is about 1/2 mile from the front door of Jambo. An end room on the north wing of Kidani is about 5/6 mile from the front door of Jambo.

The shortest possible walk from Kidani to Jambo requires you to be near the Zazu elevator and take it to the ground floor (the stairways are in the same places as the elevators). On the ground floor, running almost throughout the building, is the under-building parking lot, and on each wing there are three elevators, one near the lobby, one about a quarter the way down the hall of the wing and one about 3/4 of the way down the hall on the wing. The ones near the lobby have no name. On the south wing to the right of the lobby, you will see a red AED sign between the second and third pods. That is where the Timon elevator is. You will also see a red AED sign between the fifth and sixth pods. That is where the Zazu elevator is and the one to use to have the shortest walk to Jambo.

The standard rooms are on the same side as the front entrance of the building, The pool is on the norrth wing and the bus stop on the south wing. On the south wing you will find standard views only in the first four buiding pods from the lobby, which look towards the bus stop and the road area, and that would be your view if you want close to the Zazu elevator. On the north wing to the left, you will find standard views in the first three buidling pods, all more less facing the pool area. The red AED sign between the second and third pods is where the Rafiki elevator is, which gives you the shortest possible walk to a gate to the pool area. There are also some converted savanna view rooms on the north wing that overlooked the Pembe savanna and are now standard. Exactly how many is unclear. In the fourth buidling pod from the lobby, it appears there may be some rooms right at the bottom of Pembe that are now standard view. Confirmed is that the rooms in the sixth buidling pod from the lobby that overlook Pembe are now standard -- they were converted because the outer fence to the savanna comes fairly close to the building and animals usually pass through but do not stop in the area. Also known is that a GV overlooking Pembe in the seveth pod is now standard and thus there may be other standard rooms overlooking Pembe in the seventh pod but that has not been confirmed by reports. If you want a savanna view room that has been converted to standard, your best request is a room near the Pumba elevator which is at the red AED sign on the north wing between the sixth and seventh pods. However, that will put you a long way from the Kidani lobby, a longer way from the bus stop, and an eternity from Jambo.

drusba, THANK YOU for the detailed info. It is SO nice that there are so many helpful people on these boards; it's better than a travel agent!

I am going to call first thing in the morning to book - DH and I talked about doing a split stay, but he thinks he can find an extra few hundred in the budget to upgrade to savannah view at JH so we might just do that and not have to move. Many, many thanks!

Now I guess I need to decide what kind of room request to make for savannah view at JH! :rotfl2:

All the DVC rooms are on fifth floor at Jambo except the club level rooms which are on the 6th floor, which floor exists only directly above the lobby. Thus avoid any high or low floor request. There are many savanna view rooms with good views. I would avoid a close to lobby or close to transportation request because the rooms you would get are not the ones with the best views. Our preferred requests at Jambo are for view of Arusha savanna (the one in the middle of the U-shaped building), along Zebra Trail, away from the lobby. Zebra Trail is the right side of the U-shaped building while Kudo Trail is the left side. You get decent views and you also get a room that faces west so you can see pleasant sunsets in the evening but avoid blazing sun on the balcony and pouring through the windows of the patio doors in the morning. Also, being on Zebra trail puts you on the side of the resort where the pool is.

Great info - thanks again! Called the rental co. first thing this morning, so we will see what happens. NOW they say they are getting a ton of requests for AKL and might not have owner points available right away, so we'd have to "wait in cue" (sp?) or something....not sure what all that means, but I just want to be done already! Whether we get JH or have to go back to our original plan of staying at a mod, I need to stop thinking about it! :earseek:

Good luck on finding owner points! Not sure that I would have enough to sell you.

In any case, just wanted to chime in (although it sounds like you are already decided) that in my opinion there is no choice between a moderate and a deluxe resort. Our last trip we had stayed in DVC rooms so long and forgot what moderate rooms were like. We were out of points so paid cash for a moderate. I will NEVER do that again! DVC rooms have spoiled me!

So definitely stay at AKL and not a moderate resort - you will like the rooms SO much better!

Let us know if you were able to get your room!

The 7 month mark is coming up in less than a month for your trip so that will open up for more owners to book if they don't get any AKV points before then. Since this is possibly a once in a lifetime trip I do recommend to stick it out for AKV whether that be Jambo as you prefer or Kidani. Moderates work but there isn't a close comparison between the two. Just my opinion of course. :goodvibes

There are multiple points rental companies (brokers) out there. Try Googling DVC points rental and see if you can find another broker with AKV points.
