My boys got a $30 gift card for Ihop at Christmas.

It is oldest DS's 17th birthday today. With our situations he will not be getting any gifts, but we're have a turkey dinner and cake, etc.

So, to celebrate birthday and end of semester exams they are going to Ihop. Is $30 enough for 3 growing big teenage boys to eat???

I image it would be. They are offering a $4.99 all you can eat pancake deal right now, but I'm sure they'll want a side...bacon or sausage and definately a drink, plus tax.
Any idea how much all that would be???

I'm sending a few dollars for a tip, but need to send them with a bit extra for their bill. I don't want them feeling bad for wanting to eat, especially for DS on his birthday.

They are going soon so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Please, any idea of cost??

I have never eaten there, so I have no idea.

My opinion... send him with an extra $20 (or make sure he has some extra). IMO, $30 is calling it kind of close. I would assume at least $10pp... even with $5 for the all you can eat pancakes (assuming they all do that), + $1.50(?) for a drink, +$2.50(?) for a side, that's $9 each. Now you're at $27 + tax (6% is another $1.62) + tip (15% is another $4.05). You're at $32.67. The extra $20 is "peace of mind" to me.

With a coupon, I can scoot out with a meal, drink, and tip for about $10, going cheap. The coupon is 20%.

With 3 kid's meals and 1 adult we skated under $30 inclusive of tax and tip.

I'm thinking they will be short and it may cost the server their tip if they were limited to just the gift card.

With $6 cash for tip and being frugal on meal choices, they should be fIne. It can just go from a cheap meal to all the little things adding up real fast. Having cash on hand for the tip is a safety net for the server (plus I'm not sure if the card can be used for tip.)

Awww that's makes me sad. He has to use his Christmas GC to buy his birthday celebration. I would send $20 or so just in case.

I sent the extra twenty, explain to tip and enjoy.

I'm praying that I get most of the $20 back.

Thank you for your help.
I always appreciate the helpful answers/tips I get here.

The gift card was for all 3 of them, and they were planning to go by themselves....DS17 driving, boys hanging out kinda thing, window shopping at Music & Arts and Barnes & Noble.
They are very understanding on how things are right now.

They are awesome kids.

The girls and I are making the cake and my bff (who owns party store) is giving us the plates/napkins, etc including a balloon bouquet of Miami Dolphin colors with football balloon. So we will be having a small birthday celebrations.

My super awesome DD(8) made him a special box covered in wrapping paper with a list of contents:
pkg of gum
mini 8 ball
bendy pencils
etc....things she found around the house.
So special!

I would send some extra money. When I take my two kids (who both order off the kids menu) we spend almost $30. I think the drinks are close to $3.

We just went for the all you can eat pancackes and just pancakes was $4.99, pancakes with bacon (2 or 4 pieces, can't remember), hash browns and eggs was $6.99 and with bacon and sausage, hash browns and eggs was $7.99. Hope that helps. If you join their online club you can get a free meal, but it takes a day for the email to show up.
