I just moved to Merrit Island and have to cross 528 causeway to go to work and the Brevard EOC has only posted "currently no plans to close causeways in Brevard" which was posted at 10am. BUT, I am unsure what is a safe wind mph to still go over the bridge. Anyone?

:confused3 We decided that we have no desire to drive over it in anything more than "regular" thunderstorm winds. I have no idea what a "safe" wind speed is for driving over the causeway, and I definitely don't want to find out! Do you have to go to work on the mainland tomorrow no matter what or something? If not, I'd stay that sticking close to home might be a good idea...everything on the mainland seems to be closing up for tomorrow anyways.

I have to go in tonight I work 11p-9am, normally, but going in a bit early so DFiance' can have the car (my work place is not safe we already have standing water, etc). So I'd be traveling the bridges at 9:30pm tonight and around 9:30am tomorrow, it looks like tomorrow is out and I'll have to stay at work since I think our winds will be pretty nasty then, so wondering when it would be a safe speed to head home.

They never close our causeways--but when the winds hit maybe 40ish or so.....give or take...the cops won't even cross them.

Hope that helps!

ETA:

I'd have him drive you--and he needs to watch the weather to see what current conditions are at 9 in the morning when he has to come back and get you.

Seems that it will be roughly 6 hours for Wilma to cross the state and he may have some trouble picking you up in the AM.

You can always cross a causeway further south so you will at least be on the correct side. That will give you a 30 minute head start on getting on the other side of the river.

Cross further south, wouldn't that put me closer to the storm?
