quick cooking question: can I freeze cake batter?

I have half the batter I'd like to save for another time (I'm making 12 of the 24 cupcakes). Can I freeze it..or does that only work for cookie dough?

Cakes can be frozen after they are baked or the batter can be frozen.

Storing the batter has several advantages: it is easier to package, requires less freezer space, and the cake seems more moist, with a flavor more like that of a freshly mixed and baked cake. A frozen baked cake, however, requires less time to prepare for serving after it is taken from storage. In addition a baked cake can be frosted before it is frozen and stored. freezing cake batter. Pour batter into a quart container and freeze immediately.

Using frozen batter. Defrost batter for about 5 hours at room temperature. When the batter is just soft, transfer it to greased pans lined with waxed paper. Leave at room temperature for 10 to 20 minutes before baking.

wow...I always thought that you couldn't even keep batter for a day in the fridge! so, does freezing yield the same result?

I'm surprised you can freeze it. It says on the box - bake immediatly after mixing. huh good to know.
