quick Cell Phone question

My DSIL just told me she *never* turns off her cell phone, or rarely does. At night she keeps it on vibrate in case her kids in college need her. It'll wake her up but not her husband.

I sort of like the idea because I too will want to know if my kids need us, and the landline phone would definitely wake up the others.
But won't it wear out the battery much faster than if turned off each night?

Y'all know everything :) so what do you think Dissers?

I have a smart phone, and I never turn it off. I plug it in to the charger on my bedside table every night.

My last smart phone lasted the whole two years of my contract no problem with never turning it off and charging it nightly.

A non-smart phone should be able to go several days without being turned off before it needs to be charged again.

I never turn my cell off. Ever. I'm on call 24-7 for work so I kind of have to keep it on (although sometimes I wish I could turn it off ;)). DH keeps his on too although he's not on call for work. We don't have issues with our batteries. I also always keep mine on vibrate (and I use it as an alarm clock too). I use it all day for internet and email, and probably average 30-50 minutes on a phone call everyday. When mine gets low I just stick it on the charger and take it off when it's done. I also have a charger in the car so I can hook it up there too when it gets low.

I don't know anyone who doesn't keep theirs on 24-7. Although I also don't think I know anyone who still has a home phone line that they actually use other than my parents ;) We're all 20 and 30 somethings in that newly married/young babies stage - we're past the 1am drunk dials and not to the point of having kids out of the house. We don't use our home line (it's hooked up for home security only) so I like having my cell on at all times incase someone needs to contact me.

If I were you I would keep it on at all times with kiddos. Then they know they can always get a hold of you. If your battery doesn't last an entire day there's something wrong with it and it should be replaced anyway.

I also never turn off my phone. Actually, we have 4 lines, 2 smartphones and 2 basic phones, and the only time they're turned off is it one doesn't get charged or if one of the kids are punished from their phone. Never had a problem with battery life. All of our past phones have been upgraded because we wanted another phone, not because we have to because of battery issues.

I almost never turn mine off either.

I place it in the charging base on my nightstand before I go to bed (and it turns on automatically when in the charging base even if I have previously turned it off).

Even if it was not plugged in all night, the battery charge only goes down maybe 5%, so it's not like a big deal as far as wearing out the battery.

Mine gets shut off every night (unless DH is traveling, then it sleeps on the nightstand next to me, which has been the last 2 weeks ).

We have a landline that anyone can get in touch with us if needed.

I can't remember the last time I turned my phone off. I don't usually keep it in the bedroom with me. It's almost always in my purse or on the table in the living room, but it's on 24/7.

My phone is also on 24/7...with 3 teens/older kids, it is how they get ahold of me-by texts...also, i dont need an alarm clock as this is what i use my cell phone for....best thing on trips too, always use it to wake up! :thumbsup2

I never turn mine off either. it's on vibrate but it's on.
