DS is turning 14. Big Monty Python fan. Would love to take him to see Spamalot and found some tix on Telecharge. Listed as having "adult" themes. How "adult" are we talking? Anyone see it or hear anything?
Haven't seen it but I've listened to the soundtrack and DH is friends with the original woman cast as the Lady of the Lake...from what the soundtrack and cast describes it is incredibly tongue-in-cheek and the adult themes aren't anything you won't see in primetime television. The music is hilarious. You can go to Broadway.com or Playbill.com for synopsis and additional information.
I saw it and, but for some swear words and a few scantily clad ladies, I can't think of anything in the show that would offend the sensibilties of a 14 year old.
We saw it and brought along my Dsis who was 15 at the time. We LOVED it. Anything sexually themed is all innuendo, just like the Monty Python movies/shows. I think it would be fine for your son!
I just saw it on Saturday, and I say take him. Like a PP said, nothing he wouldn't see on TV. They pretty much make fun of everyone and anything. I don't like Monty Python and I thought the show was HILARIOUS!! My DH, Dad, and Mom and big MP fans and they loved it even more than I did, so I say go for it. He'll love you for that one!
I'm pretty strict about that stuff but we took DD 13. She loved it.............there were some double entendres that she didn't 'get' but it's actually much tamer than shows like "The OC" or "Gilmore Girls" etc. And, the show is so funny that we actually missed some lines because we were laughing so hard.

Could I ask what the theater is like? I found very affordable seats pretty much in the back of the theater. I know that many of these theaters are pretty small and sitting in the back is no big deal. What was this place like?
We took our daughter this past August for her 16th birthday and she LOVED Spamalot! In fact, we got tickets for December and will be going to see it again! Our daughter is a HUGE Monty Python fan. Spamalot is based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and the show is fantastic! There may be a few references that are a bit more risque than the movie, but probably okay for a 14 year old. In fact, the show is fast moving in parts and some things might go right over his head. There is no nudity. There is no violence. Well, except when the knight gets his arms and legs chopped off, but it's done in a hilarious Monty Python way. if you've seen The Holy Grail, you know what I mean.
The show is hilarious and the songs are great. It's a very entertaining show.

The theatre is fairly small. We had seats in the first row of the balcony and they were excellent. For December, we have seats in the fourth row of the balcony. In fact, we usually prefer balcony seats over orchestra seats because it just seems like the view is better. Spamalot is in the Shubert Theatre and from what I could see, it looked like any seat would be a good seat.

We saw the show last September with our almost 9 year old DS and 10 year old DD. The show was hilarious! As others have already mentioned, there were some bad words, but there really weren't any adult themes. We all loved the show and always listen to the CD. We had seats in the 3rd row balcony, and they were wonderful seats. The balcony is very steep, so no worrying about having to look at someone's head the whole show.

When staying at our apartment in Manhattan, my wife and I go to a show just about every 3 weeks, so we're pretty seasoned theater-goers. I would say, if you only go to the theater every once in a while, spring for the orchestra section...it's only $50 extra per seat. The upgrades's well worth the price.
I had asked this same thing a few weeks ago, and decided to go ahead and get tix. My DD (almost 12) is a huge Monty Python fan. She and DH watch on TV together every week. She wanted to go for her birthday, so the two of them will be seeing it.
