Queue-less waiting system, disabilities, and the GAC...

Has anyone tried the new queue-less waiting system with wheelchairs, sensory problems, social anxiety, or other needs? I admit I am a little nervous...

My biggest problem is with queues where there are mobs. If someone bumps me, it really hurts. I also have problems with anxiety and sensory problems.

Does anyone know if the GAC will be handled any differently with these queues?

I just like to know what to expect! :)

From what I have read, they sound like they migh work well for some people's disabilities. It sounds like there is a large area for waiting until your group is called. It also sounds like there are things to do while waiting.
The question I can see will be what happens when the group is called - is it a free for all and people rush in or is it controlled.

The attraction I've heard they are testing it in is Rock n Roller coaster, so that may be an attraction that a lot of posters here don't go on.

I know they will eventually use it for Dumbo as well, and strangely, RnR is the only thrill ride I can go on!

I was just curious what the queue itself looks like... I dont mind a place to sit. My concern is children running around... It is why I must have a Fastpass for Soarin... Just curious what people's experiences have been.

My DD hasn't ridden Rock N Roller coaster, but we will be at WDW in a month and will have this on my list of things to take pictures of.

No need to go out of your way just for me :) I do use a GAC, so I at least have a tool to explain to the CMs why that area won't work for me after Ive seen it (if it wont work that is).

I just get nervous about any time a queue gets turned into a mob!

hi! Do any of you know if it will affect the use of the GAC'S? I guess what I am asking is will they just send you to this queue -less line versus issuing you a GAC? Thanks for any replies

My DH will want to ride, so I’ll be there anyway (plus one of the Companion Restrooms is there and we often use it while DH is inside the ride).

I am thinking that for many situations, this will work rather than whatever was done as accommodation for a GAC.

I just read a thread about this on the TPAS board and there were these links to pictures from the tests: http://www.studioscentral.com/column/studios-update/rock-n-roller-coaster-queue-changes

It looked. . . interesting. One of the first thing I noticed was the lack of seating (besides the ground). Obviously this is still in the test phase. I hope that if it becomes permanent then they will put in plenty of benches or other seating.

I think I would be very nervous about missing my boarding number, particularly if I am up under a tent which is probably where most of us would want to be. And trying to maneuver a scooter or wc out of there when it was our turn with all the people milling around.

In the photos's i posted, it appears they have many big signs showing the next 5 groups to be called, and i understand they also call out the groups. so no stress in missing!! it looks cool.. i hate being in long lines in the hot sun wedged between two groups of people who spent so much on their vacation they couldn't afford deoderant!

thanks for the links.
I’m sure if it gets to be permanent, they will come up with some better ideas.
It makes me think of waiting for a plane and waiting for your number to be called.

The queless system is actually probably BETTER for you.
It is a wide open broad area. Covered shaded areas, benches and lots of space. Disney had video games set up (Band hero) for the kids and it's quite relaxing, just like sitting in an outdoor lounge, just waiting for your number to be called.

Here's a link to pics!

It actually looks terrible for me. I cannot wait in the sun at all (so I would need to plan to go only after dark I guess) - I get sun sensitivity from both meds and illnesses.

I also would have trouble with the mob-environment. People running around getting in line for guitar hero and rock band, and all that... mobs waiting to get in line when they think their number is coming up. For most people it may work out better, but it looks TERRIBLE for anyone with sensory problems...

But it would be better for your average family and those with kids who need to move!

Also, it looks like people with little ones cannot get into the area at all, which I believe cuts out one of the companion restrooms. That will not work. Also people with little ones cannot go into the store to shop and wait for people to get off the ride. That means all the little ones will be sitting at those tables where the food is, whether or not they are eating. it is hard enough to find a table there.

I think it is a great idea, but they are going to have to do some more before it is perfect.

They have shaded areas, and kids/mobs are everywhere at WDW, so just use your planning for the rest of WDW if you end up in at a queueless attraction.

For example - how do you handle going down Main Street, or people waiting for buses, or just checking in to a resort? Those same strategies would work for this scenario as well, wouldn't they?

As long as there are shaded areas NOT near the games and such, I should do ok.

As to the other things, I do not go to the parks when buses are full. I go later in the day and leave either early or after everyone else. I ONLY do fireworks and shows on EMH nights, so I can leave when it is not crowded. I do not go during certain times of year.

I do not wait in the lines at resort check in - my wife or family does, and I wait in a corner to join them.

I do not go at crowded times of day, I go slowly, and if things like Main Street are crowded, I avoid them (take the train around) or wait...

I just hate the idea of mobs. I get to Fantasmic 2 hrs early so I am the first in line really. I do not go in the standby line for either TT or Soarin (if I do not have a FP, i do not ride). I ask to avoid pre-shows for this reason and they let me. (after waiting in line of course).

I have been essentially housebound for a year and I am just learning how to handle people again... I am sure I will get better than this!

GROANING---how may Rock Band / Guitar Hero stations are set up????? I can see it now--kids lining up and fighting over them, a kid "hoarding" the game until their number is called, older kids pushing aside the younger ones---UGG. And then the kids who won't want to leave until their turn to play the game is up (like my DGS).

That was my thought! I did not want to deal with the crowds either waiting or watching those... You're also going to get the people who were waiting for their kids to play who then go in to argue with the CMs about going in after their time...

I understand why they like having a queue-less system, but I do worry a little bit about how they will handle disabilities... the CMs knew how to do it before, but as with every new thing there is a learning curve.

As long as I can still wait safely, I am good!

:thumbsup2 agreed

It looks like it has possibilities to be good, and would probably be adaquate for my child, but they still will need to have alternate methods also, I wold think that for those with a disability for which the waiting are is not fuctional, that a "restraunt buzzer" keyed to a number would make the more sense and would be very flexible (and cheap to implement).

So the queue is only for folks with a disability or any one can use it? If they're trying to limit it's use it'll be a nightmare trying to control it. What kid wouldn't want to play video games instead of waiting in a long line?

It is for everyone - I was just asking how they would handle people with disabilities...
