Questions for babysitter:
1). What are your hours?
2). What happens if I am late? (both from a financial standpoint and will care be provided)
3). What holidays/vacation time do you take each year? Is it paid or unpaid?
4). Do you have backup in the event you are sick?
5). What is a typical day like?
6). What is your fee?
7). Do you separate the children by age?
8). How are naps arranged?
9). What happens if my child starts crying when you are helping/working with another child?
10). Are you licensed? What is your background? Education?
11) Does any member of your family smoke? Are there pets in your house?
12) Why did you choose to work at in-home daycare?
The last question was really telling when we interviewed 11 years ago, when our oldest was a baby. We got all sorts of crazy answers that ruled out people we liked before we asked the question.
I would ask references to just tell me their experience and let them take the lead.
I am interviewing for a daycare provider for my son. Initially he will be part-time but there is a chance he will be full time in the next few months.
