Hi everyone,

My Husband and I have been looking at the DVC for some time and I think we are almost ready to buy. I still have some questions and would really appreciate any answers you guys can give. :worship: We usually vacation during March (for Spring break), in October (for Fall break), and occasionally in the summer (really too hot for us at DW). We would also like to try at least once (maybe more if we like it) to stay at Bay Lake Tower with a MK view at Christmas. So my first question is: what would be a good use year? I was thinking maybe March? Also, if we purchase part of the points at Bay Lake Tower (our main contract) and part of our points at another resort (to accumulate enough points), could we use all our points to book into Bay Lake Tower for Christmas at the 11 month window, or would we have to wait until the 7 month window since all our points would not be for Bay Lake Tower?:confused3

Thank you for any answers,
Rama

My husband and I just became DVC members also. We have similar travel habits as you and we opted for a March use year. It just seemed to make the most sense.

Also, if we purchase part of the points at Bay Lake Tower (our main contract) and part of our points at another resort (to accumulate enough points), could we use all our points to book into Bay Lake Tower for Christmas at the 11 month window, or would we have to wait until the 7 month window since all our points would not be for Bay Lake Tower?

You would only be able to use the points purchased at BLT for the 11 months window. All of the remaining points purchased at different "Home" resorts would only be able to be used within the 7 month window.

Spring Break, October and Christmas would all need home resort advantage. With so few MK view rooms at BLT, I'd imagine that these would all go to members with BLT as their home who reserved at 11 months out.

Thank you for your quick responses! Hubby has almost decided to book one of the buy 4, get 3 packages (if we still can) for a DVC resort to "try out" the DVC. I agree that it would be an excellent opportunity to see if we would like the DVC resorts. From what I have seen, it seems as if you are basically getting a room that is like a deluxe room for the price of a moderate. Is this correct? Also, does anyone know of a DVC resort that has buses which are not very crowded? My hubby is in a wheelchair and we usually stay at POFQ because the buses are not as full. He feels guilty because he takes up 3 seat spaces with his wheelchair. He was injured in the military (big tough guy) and it really bothers him when people make comments about the chair. :sad1: So just to get him to go is a chore (he can't really ride any rides), but he does love to see our daughter having so much fun! popcorn:: Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Rama

Rama, have you discovered the disABILITIES forum here at the DIS? They are fabulous for all things related to disabilities, wheelchairs, etc. And (of course!) they are a great community.

Hope you have a great trip!

Specifically, you might want to ask over there if people find the boats easier/less hassle and attention than the busses. If so, BWV and BCV are both a boat ride away from Epcot and Studios, and (especially if your daughter is young) VWL is a boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom. You'd have to take a bus just about everywhere if you were at SSR, OKW, or AKV.

As for crowding on buses, we rarely find it too bad at OKW unless it is coming back to the resort after a fireworks show, etc. Buses are generally pretty good at all the DVC resorts with some possible exceptions of BWV and BCV, but then you don't need to buses for two of the parks if you stay at either of those resorts.

I feel the true "value" of DVC is to book at least a 1 bedroom or larger. Besides the extra space, you get a full kitchen, laundry, Jacuzzi tub and all those special in room amenities of home. I'm one who does not consider a studio stay to be a true DVC stay. It's really nothing more than a glorified hotel room, and unless you are at OKW, you will get one less bed in a studio than you will in a regular hotel.
