questions on waitlist

we just bought into the DVC this jan and have our first trip as members next JAn

I was able to change our resort from the poly to BLT but couldnt get a standard view so took the lake view

however I would like to save the 20 points by swtiching--I can see though that the only 2 nights I couldnt get were Jan 30 and Feb 4th--the rest of the days are open

so now I have some questions on waitlist--

I saw theres a spot that you can waitlist the whole trip--so basically if I cant get the standard view for the whole stay Ill just stay with the lake view for the whole stay

hope this is making some sense

so if I click to waitlist the whole trip nothing will change with what I have now unless those last 2 days open

I really would like to change to standard and save the points but Im always afraid something will get messed up

so if someone could please walk me though this step by step

You have a better chance of filling what you desire if you take what is available and add a waitlist for the other two nights. There is a chance, however, that the other two nights will not become available and you will have to change resorts, for one night on each end, which is tough (and costly with moving bags, tip wise, if baggage handlers are needed). Being in the same resort, to change, makes it a bit easier, but you are roomless in the interim.

you have several options. keep your current room for now, and pick up the dates that are available and waitlist the other 2 dates. however, unless you have a lot of points, you would have to borrow from next year, then bank the points that you get back from cancelling your current room if the waitlist comes through. Or cancel your current room, take what is available and waitlist the other days. You may need to move for the other days or may get lucky with the waitlist. the waitlist is easy to use. Just put the 2 days as separate waitlists, seems to be a higher chance of coming through if individual.

Did you book both rooms already? Submitting a waitlist request doesn't tie up the open rooms. The waitlist will only fill if all days are available at the same time. Those other days could get booked out from under you.

As noted, they won't hold those days and the best chance of filling such a reservation is by taking what's there then wait listing single days or small blocks. I'd take the 2 days and waitlist the others in 2 small increments if you have enough points to do both. If not, just wait list the entire time and realize you almost certainly won't get it for standard at BLT.
