Questions on this scenario with transferred points

So i know transferred points retain their home resort booking advantage and UY. I can bank or borrow them. So i am looking to get a transfer of april 2017 points, and will make a reservation for April of 2017, but if for some reason i cancel or change the reservation - what happens to those points? What are my options?

I am looking to book a reservation with transferred April 2017 points, if for some reason, I cancel the reservation by October (might get a better room rate through conference at S&D) then can i then bank them into 2018 or once i use them for a reservation they are stuck in 2017 UY and they have to be used by March 31st 2018?

This is a bit confusing, but i want to get it straight and know my options.

Points transferred in can be banked, but not borrowed.

Transferred points follow the same rules as any points with the exception of not being able to borrow. (My response on your other post about not being able to borrow transferred points must have been missed but do know that is NOT an option). So, if you cancel while still in the banking window (Nov 30 for April UY) you would be able to bank the 2017 points into the 2018 UY and then use them or they will expire by Mar 31, 2019. If you cancel past the banking deadline then they need to be used by Mar 31, 2018 or they will expire.

And just to add/clarify a little more....since they are April 2017 points you would have to use them for a stay from April 1, 2017-Mar 31, 2018 or bank them to use from April 1, 2018-Mar 31, 2019. And they keep their home resort association too along with their UY.
