questions on renting points

We are interested in renting points and have a few questions -

1. When you pay the total dollar amount agreed upon is tax going to be charge on top of that or at the villa itself?

2. If we rent points, do we still get the perks like FASTPASS, early entrance to parks, etc.

3. Is there a way to check our the person who is offering to sell points so we don't get left holding the bag?

There is no tax. That is one of the great things about renting. It's also one of the things that I predict a politician in Florida is trying to figure a way around.

Since you are staying on site, you get all the perks of any guest who is staying onsite, whatever they may be such as early entrance. There is debate over whether you get DVC member perks however. Your key to the world card will say DVC Member on it but you won't have the Blue DVC Member Card that is sometimes asked for as proof.

I have always suggested to renters that they read a person's past posts on these boards. It will give you an idea of what they are like and how much they know. I also suggest you get everything in writing and not send all of the money until you have the DVC confirmation in your hand. Someone also suggested a while ago (I can't remember who but it was a great idea) to get the person's name you are renting from, go to the County's web site that has all of the deed listings and run his/her name through it to make sure they are a DVC owner. Thanks so much for all the helpful information - I am getting more and more comfortable with this the more I learn about it. Is there an easy way to find a specific persons posts to check them out without scrolling through everything?

Yes there is. Click on "profile" at the bottom of any of their posts. On the new screen that comes up, look in the upper right hand corner for where it says "search for all posts by this user". Click that. You will get that person's entire list of postings.
